Jewelry: "and Then Take One Piece Off"

caviar_perals_jewelry_pr.jpg

A favorite line of accessories editors the world around is "and then take one piece" off referring to the rule of removing one piece of jewelry after you are fully dressed and prepared for the day.

Of course another editor tip through the ages has been stretching a wardrobe of basics through clever jewelry usage. But if you are instructed to constantly downsize your accessorising options for day is it possible that you need a wardrobe of jewelry basics too?

Given the classic popularity of a string of pearls, diamond stud earrings, and the tennis bracelet it seems that jewelry lovers the world over agree. This makes discovering the right pieces of jewelry for your even more critical. Even the classics make different statements. Pearls make any outfit more conservative whereas a diamond stud is a classic touch that ups the elegance factor on any outfit. The same principles of choosing basics in clothing applies to jewelry.

But remember even when the editors appear to know better than we mere mortals do it can be good to break the law sometimes and throw it all on. You can always take a few pieces off at the end of the night. That is still technically following the laws of accessorising right?

Jewelry: Why Buy It When You Can Borrow It?

We all have a wish list of jewelry brands that we are all dying to wear and many times it is the price tag that prevents from doing little more than window shopping. I know I would love to dawn something by Vera Wang, Gucci, Kara Ross or even Stephen Dweck; maybe a gorgeous bracelet, an intricate ring or eye catching earrings. Now we no longer have to window shop, when we can simply borrow these gorgeous baubles at a fraction of the cost of buying them.

Bag Borrow or Steal and Borrowed Bling both offer jewelry that you can rent out whether it be for a big evening out or to impress a few friends. Bag Borrow or Steal offers genuine name brand jewelry while Borrowed Bling offers imitation gems that are said to look as close to the real thing as possible. Both operate on membership with various levels that determine which brands and how many pieces you can borrow at a time. Each site is different in the way you can borrow and which site you chose to borrow from depends on your budget and desire for the luxurious.

The comparison:

Bag Borrow or Steal:

4 membership levels:

+ Couture—Runway worthy handbags and jewelry from top designers such as Gucci and Rosiblu starting at $175 a month.

+ Diva—Luxurious, dream bags and jewelry from designers such as Louis Vuitton and Charriol starting at $90 a month.

+ Princess—Confidently versatile accessories from designers such as Betsey Johnson and Pianegonda starting at $40 a month.

+ Trendsetter—Fresh, trend-forward accessories from designers such as Dooney & Bourke and Lori Bonn starting at only $20 a month.

There are additional fees (per week or per month) for each item borrowed. The first 3 months of membership only allot you up to 3 borrowed items, and after that timeframe you can borrow up to 5 items at once. There is no time limit on how long you can borrow an item for. Borrowing frequency is based on your account being in good standing.

Silver Institute Releases Global Jewelry Report

Via Business Wire: The Silver Institute has released a comprehensive report on trends in the global silver jewelry market. The report was prepared, on behalf of the Silver Institute, by GFMS, Ltd., the London-based precious metals consultancy. GFMS Ltd also produces the annual World Silver Survey for the Silver Institute, a role they have undertaken since 1994, and it is the report of record for the silver industry.

Two of the key areas of silver fabrication demand are jewelry and silverware. Since its inception, the World Silver Survey has featured jewelry and silverware as a combined total in the main country-by-country tables. In the report issued today, entitled, Silver Jewelry Report, global statistical series have been produced that separate jewelry and silverware for the first time as well as a detailed review of the country-by-country data.

The report features a 10-year global series for jewelry and silverware, as well as a detailed qualitative analysis of the silver jewelry market. In addition, the report also examines the following key areas:

* A review of trends in silver jewelry fabrication, both at the regional level as well as focusing on countries with manufacturing volumes exceeding one million ounces, including China, India, Italy and the United States. The analysis brings out the main trends, specific to each market that have impacted silver fabrication over the past decade;

* Separate data on the leading silver jewelry consuming nations is provided in this report, including country-by-country data for the 10 largest consuming countries for the 2000 to 2005 period;

* Jewelry consumption, and in particular, competition for silver jewelry. The review is not limited to competition from white or yellow gold but extends to other materials, both precious and non-precious;

* The global trade in silver jewelry, focusing on the top five importing and exporting nations; and

* The impact of trends in the silver price, economic developments and the effect of changing fashion on consumption.

This Silver Jewelry Report makes an important contribution to the transparency and understanding of this fascinating area of the silver market. A copy of this report, may be downloaded from the Silver Institute’s home page: www.silverinstitute.org

Candy Couture: Statement Rings For Spring's Biggest Jewelry Trend

With statement rings being one of the jewelry trends this Spring, David Lundahl has designed a collection that will leave you humming the tune, “I want candy.” These oversized crystals come in a variety of colors set in gold or silver toned metals.

As seen in the New York Post last week, Lundahl’s Candy Couture made the Haute List of products to buy this Spring. The gorgeous colors and the Swarovski Crystals definitely bring to life the word “statement” in the whole statement ring craze.

Pearl Jewelry Still Defines Sophisticated Elegance

It’s a wedding day tradition to wear your mother’s pearls, female politician’s wear them to look serious yet refined, business women wear them with their pantsuits to give off a casual elegance suitable for the workplace and when heading out the door for a family portrait, most women reach for the pearls as their jewelry of choice.

While the diamond exudes luxury, pearls exude that old time level of sophistication that is best defined through old photographs of Jackie Kennedy. In fact, the cultured pearls worn by Jackie in the famous photo of John Kennedy Jr. as a youngster trying to grab them from her neck sold for $211,500 at a Sotheby’s auction in 1995 when their true value was only $500. Jackie helped defined sophistication, not only through her fashion sense, but through her choice of style in jewelry as well, which many times included pearls.

No matter if you can afford the real thing or have to opt for cultured pearls, this is jewelry that can define your style and image. Most young girls yearn for the day when they can wear their mother’s pearls and this is true for generations both past and present. Through years of jewelry trends and the hottest gems, pearls have somehow been able to remain a staple to most women’s attire. It’s still a “fall back” piece of jewelry that acts as a chameleon and can go with almost any outfit.

No matter the woman, no matter the year, I can guarantee that she has at least one piece of pearl jewelry in her jewelry box.

What do you think? Is pearl jewelry a thing of the past or does it still define sophistication and elegance among today’s jewelry trends?

Jewelry Designers Keep Pieces Au Naturel For Summer

During the summer, it’s still considered fashionable to wear less makeup and let our hair dry in the sun. And if we’re going more au naturel, why shouldn’t our accessories?

W%20Earthly%20Delights1.jpg

Apparently jewelry designers share the same sentiments. Taking a look at a recent collection featured in W magazine, pieces now offer more rough, polished gems in more earthy tones like this three strand necklace from Neil Lane for DeBeers. Yossi Harari chose to set his 24-karat ring’s array of rose-cut diamonds in oxidized gold and Fred Leighton’s pearl adorned enamel serpent bracelet is still a little more toned down. Despite the less fussy approach, these jewels are still sure to turn heads.

I guess we’re not the only ones with natural beauty.

New Jewelry Collections Cater To The Wild Side

As women, sometimes the claws come out. It could be when we’re fighting over the last pair of Ksubi skinny jeans at Barney's or vying for a promotion our co-worker is just not as equipped to handle. Whatever the reason, we definitely can be a little beastly at times.

To match these animal instincts, designers are coming out with pieces like Stenzhorn’s diamond encrusted frog ring seen here and Roberto Coin’s gecko bracelet in pink gold and black diamonds.

casatoleopardrings.png

These Casato leopard painted enamel rings (pictured above) with blue topaz, amethyst and citrine framed by diamonds are truly wildly alluring. And Carrera y Carrera never disappoints with their yellow gold elephant bracelet sprinkled with pink sapphires and rubies.

So the next time we're in a situation where we're starting to feel a little animalistic, let's just let our jewelry do the talking.

Summer Jewelry Stops and Smells the Roses

It’s that time of year again. Bees are buzzing, birds are chirping, and everywhere jewelry is in full bloom.

Calgaroflower.jpg

Bouquets of glittering jewels seem to blossom before our eyes from designers like Calgaro. His colored sterling silver on elegant woven silver fabric (above) is simply stunning.

Garavelli's delicate yellow gold rose ring with diamond petals almost has a sweet aroma all its own.

And you can almost hear the beating wings of hummingbirds sipping the nectar from this spray of Dior "Diorette" gold, lacquer, diamonds, amethyst, and citrine.

After shopping for treasures like these, it’ll be hard not to have our pockets full of posies.

Women No Longer Wedded To The Idea Of A Diamond Engagement Ring

Before they say “I do,” when it comes to diamond engagement rings, many women are saying “I don’t.” Whether it’s the recent concern over conflict diamonds or a surge in creativity, some brides-to-be are choosing gemstones instead of the usual solitaires.

Picture%202.png

However, just because they’re opting out on diamonds, doesn’t mean these women are saving money. Gemstones, such as emeralds and sapphires, are still very rare and costly. According to the Gemological Institute of America, a ruby can be more expensive than a colorless diamond of similar size.

Since non-diamond engagement rings are just starting to gain in popularity, here are a new set of Pierce Mattie 4 C's just for gemstones inspired by suggestions from Jennifer Howze of the Wall Street Journal.

Customize

“You don't have to buy a rock as big as the Ritz to work with jewelers at creating a ring from scratch…Bring the jeweler pictures of rings you like, browse available styles and sit down with a store's designer to talk about the stones and look you want.”

Consider

“Even when buying a ring straight from a display cabinet, you can make a highly personal choice...Diamonds are the hardest substance found in nature…so if you're choosing a different gem, make sure it can withstand day-to-day wear.”

Compliment

“Many jewelers say platinum is the most protective material to use for settings, because of its hardness and its ability to maintain its color and to complement the color of most gemstones. Gold, however, remains a favorite to use with emeralds and other green stones. White gold is less desirable, but is a more affordable alternative.”

Courage

“If you go for a colored stone, you needn't worry about being matchy-matchy..." Don't be afraid to make a fashion statement.

Whatever you choose, make sure it’s something you’ll treasure for the rest of your life. Just because it’s not a diamond, doesn’t mean it can’t last forever.

Chocolate Colored Jewelry: More Than Semi-Sweet

Chocolate…cure for all sorrows…healer of all wounds. What is it about that rich, creamy taste that makes women almost powerless to its clutches, helpless to its advances? We but place a morsel of it in our mouths and time seems to stand still.

Now we can take our obsession to an even greater level as chocolate makes its way into our jewelry boxes as the season’s hottest trend. These new pieces, featuring brown colored diamonds and rich smoky quartz, have all of the mouth-watering appeal of real chocolate without any of those pesky calories.

;carrera.jpg"

This white gold and diamond ring by carrera y carrera encases a perfect truffle of luscious quartz.

Eddie LeVian also creates his own flavor of chocolate with a gorgeous colored diamond pendant and Laurentia’s Joy collection offers a gold necklace with nuggets of smoky quartz. Simply delicious.

Truly, the declaration, “I’ve never met a chocolate I didn’t like,” has never been so profound.

This report was designed to be of maximum help to retailers and manufacturers in the U.S. and abroad to better understand their business and how North American consumers will affect it.

In the area of seasonal gift-giving, consumer confidence trends and jewelry buying habits, a few of the major topics covered include: self-purchasing on the rise, trends in Sterling Silver, and some surprising nuances of Valentine’s, Mother’s and Father’s Days, Graduation, and December Holidays. Jewelry Purchases Took a Turndown This Past Mother's Day

The Jewelry Consumer Opinion Council (JCOC) monitors consumers recent and expected jewelry and watch purchasing behavior through its Weekly Jewelry Purchase (WJP) Index. "The index as of May 13 is down to 87 which represents a drop in consumer buying for Mother's Day," explains Liz Chatelain, president of MVI Marketing, the parent company of JCOC. A reading of 100 points represents no movement or neutral in the purchasing by consumer. Higher then 100 will show an increase in sales. "The index has not been this low since the week after Valentines Day," mentioned Chatelain, who adds, "last year at this time the index was at +126 which further demonstrates the decline in purchasing.

Luxury items are always an indicator of a wider economic issue. I'm not surprised to hear that jewelry purchases were less this past Mother's Day. In these trying economic times consumers are also turning to costume jewelry and diamond simulants, such as those from CARAT*, that give the look of luxury, but cost about 80% less.

To review the latest updates from JCOC's Weekly Jewelry Purchase Index visit the JCOC Intelligence Center.

Jewelry Trends: The Layered Look

I'm a HUGE fan of LA based jewelry designer Shari Wacks and her signature “layered looks.” You can combine several different necklaces to create an interesting style with lots of depth or wear one statement piece alone. Check out Shari’s “How To Layer” gallery for some creative ideas.

These beautiful pieces from Gorjana (based in Laguna Beach) are also great for layering. I love the natural, organic shapes and bohemian quality of these gold bangles and necklaces. It’s the perfect summer look for laid back SoCal style and the best part is none of these pieces will do major damage to your bank account!

Jewelry PR: Rachel Leigh is a Celebrity Favorite

Rachel Bravman: Publicist turned Jewelry Designer

Everything Rachel Bravman touches turns to gold. Yes, most of the fashion jewelry she designs for her line Rachel Leigh is already a gold color, but her finishing touch turns the celebrity coveted baubles into editorial gold.

Bravman was working as an Yves Saint Laurent publicist when she launched her jewelry line in the fall of 2004. The line was a direct answer to demands for luxury fashion jewelry that could compliment designs featured in the best fashion editorials. What resulted was a fun yet fashion forward jewelry empire worn by all the Hollywood "It" girls.

Jewelry PR: TeNo Positions Stainless Steel as Luxurious

Stainless Steel gets the Golden Treatment
When I think of stainless steel, skyscrapers come to mind—not luxury jewelry.  The German originated jewelry company TeNo is hoping to change that notion with its luxury semi-precious line that uses the industrious metal as its main ingredient.

I literally stumbled across TeNo's boutique on a recent stroll through SoHo.  The logo on the sign conjured up a flashback to a Vogue ad I’d seen in the 798-page September issue.  Walking in, I was welcomed by friendly staff and a line of semi-precious jewlery that had a natural yet luxurious vibe.

Fall 2008: Cocktail Rings

Give em' the ol' razzle dazzle...

One thing I am an absolute sucker for is a large cocktail ring.  I happen to be fortunate enough to inherit my grandmother's custom Cartier, but I am always looking for other finger fringe to change things up sometimes.  This season's offerings tend to be organic and gemstone-rich.

The Pearl Remains the Main Political Choice

“Reaching across the aisle” is one of the many phrases heard repeatedly from the mouths of Presidential hopefuls recently.  The only aisles I want to talk about are the glass ones that the ladies of the campaign are strolling to acquire such wonderful statement jewelry.

In the same way we commented on the Vice Presidential debates and the town hall formatted Presidential debate, I will bring to you a political jewelry report—sans fact checking.  We will let C-SPAN, CNN and MSNBC do the job of commenting on the political rhetoric.

What’s the style receiving ‘bi-partisan wearership’?  It should come as no surprise that both parties’ ladies are donning the ever-classic strand of pearls.  We’ve seen the large strands Michelle Obama wears often to balance out her more non-traditional suit silhouettes.  Cindy McCain flaunts a traditional set in most public appearances, as well.

Budgetworthy Jewelry: Prada's Answer to Costume Jewelry

prada jewelryDolce & Gabanna and Chanel, watch out! Prada has answered your costume jewelry lines with one of its own and it's just as brand laden as yours!

Women's Wear Daily reported that Prada "commissioned an exclusive shatterproof material that is cut to resemble a precious stone and is set in metal bezels" in order to replicate the stones that compose the desired color scheme of  kiwi green, teal blue, purple, black and copper.

Prada cuff

These "stones" are often fastened to grosgrain ribbons to form necklaces, earrings and bracelets within the line.  The line would not be designer without a status evoking label approach.  This is evident in the well-known PRADA logo taking up prime real estate on many pieces.

The pieces run from $200-800 and should be in stores sometime this month.

It could be speculated that this move was made in the expectation of less than luxe "Dear Santa" letters.  As long as the logo is prominently displayed a costume jewelry piece from Prada conquers the same goal as a few-thousand-dollar bag...status.  I can see more than a few women using the highly-branded baubles as a luxe statement to an otherwise budget-savvy outfit.  What do you think?

Jewelry Trends: Big, Bold and Beautiful

Many people say that it is the accessories that make or break the perfect outfit. The accessories this season have taken on an ego unto themselves--BIG! There has been a rise of presentable oversized pieces of jewelry for the fashionably inclined. Large jewelry pieces have been on the market for years, but with more artisans giving personal touches to jewelry innovation there are now more options for the jewelry consumer. Your fashion statement is huge, so you might as well have some eye-catching pieces to help out in the process. It started early in the year, when I would be walking through the mall and I would catch sight of large gold earrings on several shoppers. The earrings were a welcomed highlight to their outfits, like a star on top of the Christmas tree. Check these out:

These "Foeut" oversize drop earrings by Tryst are a great take on the doorknocker earring trend and big accessories. Reminiscent of ribbons of whipped cream, these are made of brass, as you all know is the new silver. These are a great option to dress up and top off that fabulous outfit.

Golden Globes Jewelry Understated Yet Sophisticated

Could the economy have played a role in the lack of excess jewelry that we saw on the red carpet for the Golden Globes last night? The overall jewelry theme appeared to be understated yet sophisticated; elegant but not over the top. We all love the glitz and glamour of the red carpet, but did anyone else notice a typically key jewelry piece missing from most celebrities looks? I sure did: the necklace.

Here are some celebrities whose jewelry was minimalistic, but still made a great overall complement to their fashion style.

In 2009 jewelry is all about making a statement. Costume jewelry is making a comeback due to the economy with big, bold jewelry being the ultimate fashion essential this Spring. Big and colorful statement jewelry were everywhere at the Golden Globes this year with big earrings, huge necklaces and standout bracelets. Jewelry Trends: Jade in Fine Jewelry

jade_jewelry_1000.jpg Shopping in Manhattan's Chinatown, you can't but notice one of the most influential materials for jewelry, the green stone known as jade. The name jade is applied to two different minerals, Jadeitite and Nephrite. Both of these stones are really similar, but Jadeitite is the rarer, therefore more expensive one. Jade also appears in white and lavender shades.

Jade is most well-known as the stone in the jewelry of China. Jade has been used for thousands of years, and designers such as Elsa Peretti for Tiffany have started to use jade in their collections due to its natural form and intense color.

Jewelry Trend: Futuristic Jewelry

 VPL Necklace
Although the future is uncertain, it seems a growing trend in jewelry is, literally, the future. Futuristic, statement pieces made their mark on the runway this season and have created quite a buzz in the blogosphere. Massive, ornate, almost ridiculous jewelry--yet drool-worthy, no doubt--is becoming increasingly popular as exhibited in both VPL's and Alexander Wang's latest fashion shows. Some of the jewelry even looks like it could be used against an attacker.

Although the jewelry is undeniably beautiful, is it hard to say whether it's wearable outside of the fashion-centric cities. Is futuristic jewelry really the future, or will it just go down in history?

Tights are a winter staple for all women, or they should be. It's yet another way to express your personality through an outfit. Tights can be sophiscated, edgy and beautiful.

But tights are a fashion accessory, right? So why would we be talking about tights on the jewelry blog?  Well, take a look at the tights from the fall runway shows and you'll get it. The bejeweled tights for fall are bedazzling, one might say. Not only will they keep your legs warm, but they'll be the centerpiece of your outfit. These tights will be the only accessory you'll need for fall. You won't even have to wear jewelry, unless you want to of course. But I wonder, are they practical? How will this trend translate to the streets?

Watch Trend: The Boyfriend Watch

ToyWatch has continually been keeping abuzz since its launch in 2006. Inspired by high-end pieces, ToyWatch has created an affordable, chic unisex brand, and, to say the least, was proclaimed as one of Oprah’s favorite things. At first starting the trend of ceramic watches, the brand has now ventured on a new trend of their own: the “boyfriend” watch.

Jewelry Trend: Embellished Brooches

Forever 21 BroochIt seems like brooches are the least recognized piece of jewelry and I really don't know why. They've been left out of the mass market in recent years so they've been lost on the Generation Y's. But they're worn by our nation's high-profile style icons like the First Lady and Carrie from Sex and the City (remember the huge flower from the movie?) Brooches are an easy way to add sophistication and style to an ensemble without having to spend a lot of money. Plus, if you don't wear much jewelry, brooches are the perfect way to add a little glitz.

I think the best place to put a brooch is the lapel of a blazer or coat, but they can be pinned on blouses, hats and bags. For an edgy look, pin a few brooches next to each other on a lapel. Of course, the runway always displays the most beautiful brooches embellished with Swarovski crystals or diamonds or other gems, but who can really afford those? So I ask, where can you find a pretty brooch that won't break the bank?

Palladium To Become Metal of Choice

Platinum who?  Palladium has been deemed the next cool kid on the block, dethroning platinum for the title.  Initially an underdog in the jewelry world, Palladium is predicted to be driven by designers beyond just bridal and men’s categories, where it has slowly been gaining converts over the past several years.  Despite containing 95 percent pure metal, jewelers remained disinclined to feature it in their stores for fear of consumers’ unfamiliarity of the precious metal.

A sure sign of its rise to fame came at the 2009 American Gem Trade Association Spectrum Awards where they announced that Palladium is finally gaining more acceptance in the designer world.  Many designers including Tenthio, Sasha Primak, and Michael Sugarman will be developing an entire palladium collection in conjunction with high-karat gold and platinum lines.   Additionally, retailers can expect to see an increase in palladium pieces at the summer trade shows.  Solidifying the trend, some of the most highly acclaimed names in the design world will also be adopting the metal, including Robert Lee Morris, Paul Morelli, Zoltan David, Alishan, Michael Bondanza, and Barry Kronen.

But like with all things, the economy plays a role in the rising popularity of Palladium...

Silver Marketing Initiative Spills Into Jewelry Industry

Apparently gold and platinum are being kicked to the side for metals such as Palladium (see my other article: Palladium To Become Metal of Choice) and now Silver.  Silver has always been looked at as the redheaded stepchild in the jewelry world, but the recently launched Silver Marketing Initiative (SMI) is expanding its outreach to the jewelry industry in an effort to pull silver out of the shadows. Not since 2001 has there been a structured marketing effort in place for sterling silver jewelry.

The SMI started off in 2009 with an exhibit at the recently concluded Manufacturing Jewelers and Suppliers of America (MJSA) Expo Show, held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.

Many employees and administrators at SMI were gratified by the industry’s enthusiasm for the marketing group at the MJSA Expo.  The two most frequent voiced comments were, “It’s great that there is now an organization whose objective is the promotion of silver jewelry” and “The timing for an initiative such as this couldn’t be better.  It is definitely the Season of Silver.”

Plans are now being finalized for participation in both the JCK Las Vegas show in May and in the JA New York summer show in July.

Silver doesn’t think that the economy is the only thing that can have fun with Stimulus Plans...

How to Mix Gold and Silver Jewelry

Lucid New York NecklaceWe've all heard the supposed "rules of fashion." Never mix black and brown. Never wear stripes and patterns. Never, never mix gold and silver jewelry. But why? Who made these rules and who says you have to abide by them? Even men can't break free of these guidelines. Just because your mother or grandmother said it was right, doesn't mean it is. I'm a firm believer in creating your own rules and traditions. Let's face it, following the norm is boring. In today's fashion world, it's all about making your own statement, especially with jewelry.

In recent fashion history, we've been shown that it's ok to mix patterns, to wear feathers on our heads, and to don shoes fit for a flood. For this reason, I'm advocating mixing gold and silver jewelry. Of course, even I believe there are a few exceptions. So, is it really ok to wear gold and silver jewelry at the same time?

Jewelry Marketing Trends for Fall 2009

Kimberly McDonald is a jewelry designer based in New York who creates her pieces using natural and organic materials which are then complemented by raw and and untreated fine materials. The result is a unique and exquisite piece of jewelry. I had the opportunity to talk with Kimberly regarding her designs, as well as, gain some insight into the jewelry marketing trends for 2009.

Pierce Mattie: Where does the inspiration for your pieces come from?

Kimberly McDonald: Nature. 100%. I have always been a little bit of a 'rock geek'. I collected agates from my grandmother's driveway when I was a kid. I was always fascinated by the patterns and colors. It amazes me that as much as we try to manufacture beauty, nature still trumps whatever we can conjure up. I base every piece on how to best enhance what is natural and unique about every stone.

Pierce Mattie: You discuss on your website not harvesting new materials but using our current ones, can you explain?

Kimberly McDonald: I think that conservation begins with being conscientious. I do make every effort to use what has already been harvested or utilized. Sometimes this means that we rework antique pieces (such as the natural carved emeralds in the ring attached here). We use cameos that were carved and never set into jewelry that are from the 1870s-early 1900s (see the pendant attached here). We use recycled gold and diamonds when we can. When we use wood, we use reclaimed wood (some of it comes from guitars, ships, other wooden structures). Because Nature is the focal point of the collection, it is always with a healthy respect that I approach anything that I know will involve "taking from" the earth. I think that is the best that any of us can do and if everyone would do the same, I am pretty sure it would benefit our planet immensely.

Kate Spade Accessories, Juicy Couture Fashion and Argento Vivo Jewelry Create The Standard for Holiday Marketing 2010 Jewelry Trends – Gold Plated Returns

katespadegold.jpg

Kate Spade 'cortes' triple paillette necklace with Lobster clasp closure, approx. strand lengths: 16"; 20"; 24". approx. disc diameter: 5/8" at largest. 12k gold-plated base metal/brass.

We can’t afford it, but we want it, gold that is! I was in a new business meeting last week with a jewelry designer (name shall remain nameless) who went on and on about how gold was so expensive to work with as a jeweler but all of her clients craved it. Jewelry editors of major magazines, blogs and TV shows have always loved putting gold in their stories, but this winter especially for holiday, will we remain economically sensitive and feature our good ole standby sterling silver?  According to the World Gold Council who today released these figures stated that the U.S. gold demand in the second quarter rose 10 percent year-over-year as nearly doubled investment demand offset weaker jewelry buying. For the second quarter, total U.S. demand for gold rose to 50.6 tonnes, up from 46 tonnes a year earlier.

If you can’t afford it, but have to have it what do you do? Gold plated jewelry, eeek! Dare I say such nonsense? It was all the rage during the Reagan years and it's back media mavens! In a big way!

Electronic Retailing Jewelry Marketing with Brilliante Purely Platinum on ShopNBC

shopnbc.jpg

With the recession in full swing we at Pierce Mattie started to wonder when we would see the boom in jewelry manufactures use cubic zirconia (or CZ), the cubic crystalline form of zirconium dioxide. We know from our post last week that gold plated jewelry is on the rise and now the CZ premium collection launches on ShopNBC called "Brilliante Purely Platinum," a new product line of pure platinum jewelry set with certified Brilliante cubic zirconia stones consumers are able to continue to give the appeal of luxury, but for much less.

The Brilliante Purely Platinum range represents the newest standard in premium cubic zirconia. Each stone is colorless, symmetrical, and diamond-like in sparkle but at a fraction of the cost of real diamonds. Other brands within the Brilliante family include Brilliante Facet Collection, Brilliante Timeless Collection and Brilliante by Design. The new collection debuts this weekend, during the premiere airing of the show titled after the line.

As part of the debut, ShopNBC hottie host Daniel Green and style maven Heather Hall will surprise and delight savvy jewelry viewers with a black-tie presentation, bringing to life the unique story of Brilliante Purely Platinum. Each stone in the collection has been independently certified as AAA quality, and each individual design includes a unique, laser-inscribed identification number. The Purely Platinum collection includes both classic and contemporary designs with prices ranging from $150 - $1,000.

Alex Patton, ShopNBC's Vice President of Jewelry and Watches, said, "Pairing pure, high-end platinum -- the jewelry industry's most sought-after metal -- with the beauty and value of Brilliante's finest cubic zirconia, is a new concept developed in response to increased customer demand. We are thrilled to introduce the new line and show series, as well as offer our customer a premium option in jewelry that simply did not exist before today."

Pierce Mattie's 3 Brilliante Purely Platinum Must-Have's:
  • Platinum 1.00ct Round or Princess Cut Stud Earrings (J319661 - $179.00). Sparkling stud earrings are an elegant, affordable alternative to classic diamond studs.
  • Platinum 2.00ct Round Cut Brilliante Solitaire Ring (J319660 - $440.00). Breathtaking, bold size and design puts elite elegance well within your reach.
  • Platinum 1.00ct Round Cut Brilliante Three-Stone Ring (J319665 - $918.75). A look for the ages, this three-stone design delivers triple the sparkle.

Golden Globes: Statement Earrings with Bulgari, Ofira Schwartz and Chopard

It wasn't too difficult to notice a jewelry trend among celebrities last night at the Golden Globes as so many went sans necklace (although Julia Roberts' Van Cleef and Arpels necklace kind of made up the difference for everyone else.) However, no necklace meant giving way to larger statement earrings and they were something fierce. (My ear lobes screamed oh no, but my love of jewelry said oh yes!)

Bangle Jewelry Trends for Spring 2010 w/ Giles & Brother, Alexis Bittar & Ranjana Khan

Jewelry trends for Spring 2010 include the sometimes underrated bangle bracelet. Designers this year have found ways to make bracelets demand attention through large gemstones and embellishments. The style this season is more along the lines of a bold and very overstated elegance. Just as we've been seeing with statement rings and bib necklaces (which to me is really making a statement at its core and something Ranjana Khan excels at), bangle bracelets are now taking their place as a must-have accessory for Spring.

Is China The NEW frontier for Growth in Jewelry Marketing & Public Relations

Sure production of jewelry and other goods coming out of China have been getting a bad rap lately. It seems that if it's not news stories about jewelry being made with cadmium, then it is about lead-based toys. But let's not get that confused with how jewelry and luxury brands are faring IN China. China has the 3rd largest economy in the world and is quickly inching up on Japan for the number 2 spot. This has not been lost on brands based outside of the country in unstable economic conditions looking to ride the wave of sales elsewhere.

Pierce Mattie Public Relations Summer Jewelry PR Trends

This summer’s New York PR jewelry trends will leave no look naked. Several must-have jewelry trends this summer are florals, white paired with gold or silver, chain links and colorful, bold statement jewelry , all of which have been prominently seen on and off the runway. So what do we do? Adopt these trends!

Florals: Florals are a hot jewelry and fashion trend this season. I don’t know about you, but every time I walk into a store, it is flooded with floral merchandise (hence why I am wearing a floral tunic right now.) Even our favorite celebrities have been spotted in floral clothes and accessories. Floral accessories add that touch of femininity to an outfit that most women crave. Can you say flower power?

Summer Jewelry Trend: Chandelier Earrings with Nadri

Big earrings are in-trend this summer and if you are looking for more oomph than your basic statement hoop, then chandelier earrings may be right up your alley. Elegant and sophisticated, chandelier earrings can dress up a t-shirt and jeans or add some glamour to an already stylish ensemble. Bigger doesn't always mean you have to spend more to keep up with the jewelry trends. For example, Nadri has some gorgeous chandelier earrings that won't cost you your first born.

Many of Nadri's tiered chandelier earrings are designed with crystal's, so you have the sparkle and shine, without paying too much. I love the Peridot-colored tier chandelier earrings and the crystal broilette earrings as well. There are also chandelier's wih CZ's as well, for larger looking stones.

Is this a trend you feel meets your personal style this summer?

Dogeared Forever features classic basics while fashion collections are showcased in Dogeared Now. Dogeared, a trendsetting fashion brand that creates handcrafted jewels and gifts in Los Angeles, is launching their latest collections at select August trade shows. Both capture the casual mix of classic, modern, and vintage elements that has made Dogeared a global bestseller and a favorite of celebrities, stylists, and retailers alike.

Dogeared Bracelets: handmade in Southern California

Dogeared, a trendsetting fashion brand that creates handcrafted jewels and gifts in Los Angeles, is launching their latest collections at select August trade shows. Two new catalogs feature product lines with two distinct points of view: Dogeared NOW and Dogeared FOREVER. Both capture the casual mix of classic, modern, and vintage elements that has made Dogeared a global bestseller and a favorite of celebrities, stylists, and retailers alike.

Basics get their chance to shine in Dogeared FOREVER, home of Karma, Pearls of…, Make a Wish and Reminders; the tried and true groups that are the soul of Dogeared. This line has grown with the addition of Reminder bracelets, Whispers necklaces, and 38 new charms that are hand-cast by local artisans in recycled sterling silver.

Fashion collections are showcased in Dogeared NOW. Mantra necklaces and leather wrap bracelets are a modern take on the word jewelry that helped launch Dogeared 19 years ago. Hand-cast plaques in unexpected metal finishes, hand engraved with words that empower, inspire, and connect with the wearer. Jewel Box is a vintage-inspired collection with an heirloom feel… Antiqued chain, rich leather, sophisticated gemstone hues, and the kind of intricate detail and craftsmanship you can only find in handmade jewelry. Both groups are completely new, but also beautiful examples of how Dogeared has revisited their roots and reinterpreted designs that have always resonated with their customers.

“This season, we reevaluated everything. In the past couple of years it seems that everything about the business has changed, so we continued to explore ways to adapt to today’s market. We were very thoughtful about merchandising, and introduced cleaner, more modern packaging. We established a wide range of competitive price points to offer something for everyone. The results are stronger groups that are focused, cohesive, and inspired,” explained Marcia Maizel-Clarke, Dogeared’s founder. “The pages of these books reflect the essence of who Dogeared is, and who we have always been… in beautifully captured expressions of what it means to live the Dogeared lifestyle. As always, everything is hand-crafted in our southern California studio, Earth friendly, and designed in the Dogeared spirit of love, friendship, celebration, and wishes.”

As Dogeared expands their collections and catalogs, they continue to decrease their environmental footprint. Catalogs, cards, and packaging are printed on mixed sources, and charms are cast from 100% recycled silver. The company works with suppliers and casters who share this commitment, and all jewelry and gifts are produced in the most environmentally conscious way possible - by hand in their Southern California studios.

Retail prices range from approximately $25 to $225. The collection catalogs are viewable online at www.dogearedwholesale.com.

Retailers, buyers, and editors can view the collection and wholesale catalog at LA and Dallas Markets, Project Las Vegas, and at the NY International Gift Fair.

Red Carpet Jewelry from the 2010 Emmy's

Did you watch the Emmy Awards last night? The jewelry seen on the Red Carpet was amazing! Although I was surprised to see some celebrities wearing minimal, if any jewelry at all. As usual, overstated, over-the-top, statement jewelry was the jewelry trend last night and the  favorite metal had to be Platinum (and I loved every minute of it!)

By far, jewelry from Lorraine Schwartz had to be the hands down celeb favorite of the night. From Heid Klum to Sofia Vergara to Emily Blunt to Lea Michele to Jane Krakowski, so many celebrities were wearing her intricate and embellished jewelry. My favorite had to be the necklace worn by Lea Michele, who just looked amazing all together, I don't think there was a single fashion or beauty don't with her last night!

Cartier was were worn by celebrities like January Jones (did you see that dress? Yikes!) and Dianna Agron.

I was excited to hear that Naya Rivera's ring and brooch were from Le Vian. (Le Vian is my most favorite jewelry brand!) The ring was 14K set in strawberry gold and the brooch was a multi-colored Sapphire flower. The jewelry was simple and brilliant, her hair? Not so much.

Which celebrity wore your favorite jewelry of the night?

Jewelry PR: Rings Eclectic by Melanie Lynn

Statement jewelry continues to be a huge jewelry trend this year and in Melanie Lynn’s beautiful collection, Rings Eclectic, you will find sophisticated, chunky designs that will capture the attention of others- without being gaudy. The timeless appearance of the creative jewelry makes them great conversation pieces, suitable for any look.

Prior to creating jewelry, Melanie was a graphic designer and had two successful solo shows as a painter. It is evident in every unique piece that her jewelry draws on her artistic inspiration. Her rings are carefully designed and created with layers of multiple materials, including brass, crystal, pearls and gorgeous stones. Each crystal and pearl is then placed in by hand. The most effort goes into months of designing the acrylic base. They are then polished individually and inscribed with Melanie’s signature on the side.

Jewelry PR: Faith Based Jewelry Going Strong

In a time when consumers are looking for hope and to purchase products that hold meaning, it's no surprise that jewelry that symbolizes faith or spirituality have emerged as a popular jewelry trend. What we choose to wear in terms of fashion and accessories has always been an outer reflection of our inner selves. So faith based jewelry only further aligns with this type of personal branding, which has become more prevalent as social networks make us our own PR machine.

Jewelry containing the cross or another form of religious symbolism has been around for ages, so is this really news? Yes, because spiritual jewelry is branching out to go beyond being associated with a specific faith, but instead represent various spiritual sayings and beliefs on a global scale that isn't tied to any specific faith-based group. A something for everyone type of trend...that has been fueled by celebrities of course.

Is there a faith/spiritual jewelry brand that you find yourself purchasing items from? We'd love to hear about it!

Diamond Marketing Is In Vogue For This Holiday

When you think about the one jewelry item that stands out as the most versatile, timeless and the only piece that is still in trend no matter the season, the only answer that comes to mind is diamonds. During the recession it was clear: if consumers were purchasing jewelry, it was as on investment pieces not trendy items. However, the diamond marketing we were seeing was geared more towards the bridal market (which is apropos since you really can't have a wedding without a diamond engagement ring) than anyone else. Now that our economy seems to be back on the uptick that is all changing and marketing diamonds for holiday gifts is back in style.

While Beauty PR is tackling Kate Middleton's manicure, and Fashion PR is all over the dress and shoes, Jewelry PR can't get enough of the engagement ring. And while it is not just any engagement ring, it is Princess Diana's after all, it is atypical in that it involves a gemstone surrounded by diamonds. (Thanks Prince William for igniting the energy back into the public's love of jewelry!)

The interest in diamonds never wanes and while that Canary Yellow Diamond or Pink diamond may be out of reach for most consumers, your typical stone can come in so many shapes, sizes and cuts that just about anyone can afford it. (I personally am making it my goal to own a Le Vian Chocolate Diamond one day!)

Have you noticed the increase in diamond marketing so far this holiday season?

2011 Golden Globes Jewelry Trends

The Golden Globes saw an infusion of youth last night thanks to show's like Glee. There was a definite distinction between mature Hollywood and the younger crowd with their jewelry setting the tone.

Younger celebs took the minimalist route when it came to their jewelry, not only with wearing fewer pieces, but with rings, earrings and bracelets that were more dainty than bold. While we continued to see fewer necklaces on the Red Carpet (why is that?) the standout for me was Sarah Hyland's pearl accented diamond Mikimoto necklace. It was the perfect fusion of elegant and wow. However, such a statement necklace on young actresses was few and far between.

Bracelets and brooches seemed to be favorites among the Hollywood elite. Heidi Klum wore many bangle bracelets on both wrists, Claire Danes wore a gorgeous Fred Leighton cuff (although I think her biceps are an accessory in and of themselves!), Eva Longoria wore two Neil Lane brooches on her hip and Nicole Kidman wore a Fred Leighton brooch on her shoulder.

I am definitely all over the bracelet trend having (finally) picked up an Alexis Bittar Lucite bracelet of my own recently. Which jewelry look did you like best at the Golden Globes?

Titanium Kay Launches Cobalt Chrome Wedding Ring Collection Amid Gold Price Hike

titanium%20jewelry%20public%20relations.jpg

Titanium Kay is proud to offer a new collection of cobalt chrome wedding bands that not only free consumers from the price constraints post by white gold jewelry but also brings durability to wedding jewelry that symbolizes eternity love.

Consumers who are thinking about purchasing gold jewelry in 2010 will find that the prices have increased substantially compared to 2009. In a July 19th report by Market Watch, the price for gold scheduled for August delivery was $1,180.40 an ounce. But just a month later on August 18, 2010 the Wall Street Journal reported that the price for gold set for delivery in December was $1,231.40 an ounce: this is the highest settlement since late June 2010.

While the rise in gold prices as well as silver and platinum presents an opportunity for investors, its impact on the jewelry trade is undeniable. And jewelers are passing on the increase in gold prices to retail consumers. But there are many jewelry designers who are now using contemporary metals to combat the escalating prices of gold, platinum and silver.

The newest jewelry crafting material to join this lineup of alternatives to high-priced metals is cobalt superalloy. It’s the result of combining cobalt, a natural element found throughout the world, with other natural elements such as tungsten and molybdenum to produce a completely safe metal.

NYC Jeweler, Firenze Jewels Discusses Same-Sex Wedding Ring Shopping Trends

gay%20wedding%20jewelry%20pr.jpg

On Friday, June 24th, New York became the 6th and largest state to legalize gay marriage. As the fervent rush begins for upcoming wedding plans, one of the places same-sex couples will consider for their wedding ring and jewelry shopping needs is New York’s world renowned Diamond District. Having already received a number of calls and e-mails this week, 47th street’s longtime jeweler, Firenze Jewels shares some insight on wedding ring selections and trends from this new surge of clientele. “For many gay couples, adherence to ceremony and tradition associated with symbolic ring exchange is important.” said Gabrielle Guzman, E-Commerce Director at Firenze Jewels.

Wedding Ring Shopping Trends with Female Couples
Some of the more sought after pieces include diamond
antique style wedding rings inspired by designs from the Victorian, Edwardian, Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Mid-century Retro Moderne and Contemporary periods. Female couples generally under 40 years of age have also expressed interest in engagement rings for a formal proposal, while many who have already been partnered for numerous years consider themselves married, and are searching for wedding bands to express that sentiment.

Wedding Ring Shopping Trends with Male Couples
Comfort, durability, and quality are often the top 3 concerns. For that reason, men generally gravitate towards platinum high dome comfort fit rings. Male couples also appreciate contemporary yet masculine pieces with intricate craftsmanship such as a hammered finish or twisted rope grooves. While most inquire about one set of rings for their wedding day, some express interest in ‘commitment rings’ until the day of their official ceremony, where a new, symbolic set will be exchanged.

It is estimated over 21,000 same sex couples from New York will marry within the first three years. Nearly 42,000 are expected to travel from abroad adding approximately $300 million to the state’s economy and wedding industry. Same sex marriage ceremonies are set to begin taking place July 24th 2011.

Jewelry PR Trends: Are Clip On Earrings The Way Forwards in Big Ear Wear?

A large statement clip on earring from the range available at Make Me Beautiful

Following recent coverage in The Daily Mail and Philadelphia Weekly of heavy earrings causing the earlobe of the wearer to irreparably split, clip on earring specialists, Make Me Beautiful issued guidance to remind earring wearers of the dangers of wearing oversized piercings.

"Earrings make a great statement about a woman's femininity but a torn ear lobe makes you look more like a cage fighter than a princess. Customers tell me it's unsightly and embarrassing for them as well as uncomfortable for others to see," explained Misae Richwoods of Make Me Beautiful. Plastic surgery to correct a torn earlobe is expensive and doesn't always work. "Often times women who've suffered it will come to us and request button clip on earrings as these can be worn over the split lobe so that it is no longer visible."

Lucio Carniani Italian Jewelry Acquired by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway

If there is one thing to say about Warren Buffet, it's that he knows business like he knows money, which seem to be going hand in hand for him lately when it comes to the jewelry industry. It was just announced that Richline International, part of Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway, recently acquired Italian jewelry brand, Carniani.

Carniani, which creates gold and silver jewelry, is now one of five jewelry brands that Richline has acquired in the past year. Many of the brands were small, boutique brands that were hit hard by the poor economy and in need of a lifeline to stay afloat. Regardless of industry, we've been seeing a lot of acquisitions across the board since the recession hit (which is not only US focused.)

What do you think of large companies scooping up small brands? Is it the end of the mom and pop type feel of knowing a designer and the beginning of turning it into a corporate, faceless entity? Tweet us your thoughts @PierceMattiePR.

Jewelry Trend: Gemstone Engagement Rings at Ice

Diamond engagement rings will always be at the forefront when it comes to popping the question, but with such a tough economy looming over budgets everywhere, it's either save and wait until you can afford to purchase a diamond that is worthy of the finger it is worn on...or opt for some innovation. Personally speaking, I had a diamond engagement ring for my first marriage, however I'm not sold on wearing another one should I ever re-marry. Call me crazy, but I'd rather wear something different, like a colorful gemstone solitaire to draw attention to my hand. And I'm not the first to think this is a good idea, as we've seen with Kate Middleton and Princess Diana before her.

Since I have Ice.com bookmarked as one of my favorite window shopping jewelry etailers, let's take a look at some of the possibilites there.

Rose gold is making a strong comeback and this gorgeous 1 1/2 carat Morganite and Black Diamond 14K Pink Gold ring ($455) definitely comands attention without robbing you blind.

This one is my personal favorite (boyfriend please pay attention) as I have had a long love affair with blue topaz. Ice's 7 1/10 Carat Blue Topaz, Sapphire and Black Diamond on 10K White Gold ($350) makes my head spin. Not only does it have a large eye catching stone, but the deep blue sapphires really give this ring some definition.

There's also something simplistic yet elegant about this 4 1/7 Carat Blue Topaz and Diamond 14K White Gold ring ($275). Engagement rings don't have to bankrupt you before you begin your newlywed life and the square checkerboard cut of this blue topaz will brillinatly add sparkle to your finger without even trying.

If gemstones are still not your thing, Ice.com does offer diamond soliatires as well. Can't decide? Ice has a great review system in place to see what other customers are saying about their products, as well as videos of each item so that you can see how the jewelry wears, whether it's a ring or necklace.

NY PR: Wear This Jewelry Trend for Fall 2011: Ornate Cuff Bracelets

If you are the kind of woman who likes to make a statement with her jewelry..from flirty to bold, one jewelry trend that I think is a must-wear this fall is an ornate cuff. I love how this thicker and more sizable cuff gets you noticed and can vary in color and design.

One of my favorites is DeAnna Cochran's Native American re-purposed leather cuff with bronze and a Tiffany green patina finish. I also have DeAnna's necklace and earrings from her Sea of Change collection and I think her stingray cuff would be the perfect addition. One of the things I love most about her jewelry is that it is all recycled materials, so you are not only saving the environment from a little less trash, but you are doing so in style.

You can find more of DeAnna Cochran's jewelry at www.deannacochran.com. Will you be wearing a cuff bracelet this fall?

Eugenio%20Designs%20public%20relations.jpg

Home shopping channel, Shop NBC has announced the return of its popular designer jewelry line, Dallas Prince Designs during their Designer Day event Sunday, October 16th.  Dallas Prince, who first appeared on Shop NBC from 2004 through 2009, was lured away by their competitor, HSN, for the past two years.  While at HSN, Dallas Prince Designs was a successful premiere concept with her 14k Gold Gemstone Jewelry and her Sterling Silver Marcasite line.  Dallas was the network's only high-end designer line outside the HSN contractual family.

Shop NBC had several of its brand name jewelry concepts leave during a management change that threatened the success of the multi channel network.  However, many changes including the arrival of CEO Keith Stewart and several others from his team at QVC have raised the successful climate at the network.  It was a goal to rejuvenate their previous luxury jewelry brands such as Sonia Bitton and Dallas Prince Designs to bring back their high end jewelry customer.

Jewelry Retail PR: Diamond & Gold Vending Machine

In need of a last minute gift? Don't have time to get to the mall? Well the Gitanjali Group in Mumbai has come up with a very unique way to purchase gold and silver coins and jewelry, as well as diamonds...and it's just as easy as withdrawing cash from an ATM. In fact, that's exactly what this is.

Their jewelry ATM is targeted to those (mainly men *cough* *cough*) who are looking for a last minute item as a gift that covers a price range of $20-$650. There are 36 different pieces to choose from and the machine takes credit cards, making it easy and painless to gift your loved one.

My only question is, when thinking of the woman who lovinly laughs that her engagement ring came from a gum ball machine...what if she really had to say it came from the ATM? Something to think about.

Will a jewelry vending machine makes its way to the states? Tweet us your thoughts @PierceMattiePR.

Jewelry PR: Larson Jewelers Introduces 20 mm Tungsten Rings Line

Flat Brushed Finish Center Tungsten Ring with Polished Edges

LarsonJewelers.com, the leading online retailer of tungsten rings, announced today they now carry 20 mm wide tungsten carbide rings. The increase in styles is to satisfy customers who want the widest ring they can find on the market today.

Enough customers have been requesting that they custom make 20 mm wide rings so, they decided to introduce a 20 mm wide line. “Since people have responded so well to our 10 mm and 12 mm tungsten carbide rings line, we have decided to add an even wider line,” says Jonathan Larson, founder of LarsonJewelers.com.

The 20 mm styles come in 3 styles. There is a domed shaped ring that is polished to a mirror like finish. This style is the classic wedding ring shape but stretched out to 20 mm. The second style is a flat pipe cut style with polished grooves at the edges, which are rounded and polished as well, and the center has a brushed finish. The third style is very interesting because the top of the ring is 20 mm wide, but the bottom is 10 mm wide. This contour shape allows the wearer to close their hand and make a fist easily when wearing such a wide ring. The ring has a flat design and polished finish. Right now, these rings come in size 7.0 – 10.5, as they are the most common sizes.

Wide rings are an excellent choice for those who love to wear bolder jewelry and those who like to be noticed. They are also great for those who prefer to have their engravings done on the outside of their rings. Engravings that people could do include text as well as custom images, like a picture of their significant other or even their fingerprint, which is quite popular these days.

As always, these rings are also covered by the same great lifetime warranty that has made them famous. Their lifetime warranty covers size exchanges, in case your finger size ever changes during the course of your lifetime. It also covers against scratching or other damage. Best of all, there is no cost to use your warranty.

LarsonJewelers.com has worked extensively with Thorsten Rings to develop this unique line. “The designers at Thorsten Rings are just top notch people. They listen to our customers’ needs and wants, and then they make it become a reality,” says Larson.

Jewelry Trends for Fall and Winter: Rocker Chic

This season's rising jewelry trend follows the path of 'go big or go home'. We’ve been seeing a lot of statement jewelry with big and chunky rings and necklaces, not to mention combining various bangles for a more edgy look, demonstrated in Avril Lavigne’s style. This season, the chunky jewelry trend has remained but slightly shifted to a more edgy style; displaying chiseled, severe, and angular edges.

A popular collection sporting this trend is Nicole Richie’s line, House of Harlow. She designs many spectacular pieces that are significantly different from everyday jewelry; like the Triangle Armor Five Station Necklace, and one of my favorites, Triple Arrowhead Ring. The House of Harlow collection holds really exciting and thrilling pieces that soon everyone will be craving.

We see another dimension of this edgy trend through bangles and cuffs. The idea of combining different chunky bracelets is always a funky way to go, especially if you add in one of Pamela Love’s sharp creations, like her Resin Tribal Spike Cuff. Or for a slightly more 'rocker' look, the CC Skye leather studded cuff as seen in the image above.

Although silver is timeless and truly an endless classic for jewelry, gold has also made a jumping comeback in pursue of this new ‘rocker-chic’ trend. These jewelry pieces are fun to wear and ultimately make the decision of what jewelry to wear easy. Often with statement jewelry you just need that one iconic piece and your outfit is complete, if you try adding too much it might start to take away the essence of each piece, revealing a cluttered, obnoxious look.

Jewelry Trend: Evil Eye Jewelry

Knock wood. Good karma. The idea and belief behind wearing evil eye pieces are that the ‘eye’ essentially acts as your third eye and is in a protective position. Whoever is wearing the evil eye piece is believed to be protected from bad karma, and negative judgment. This belief is very common in the Middle East and in Greek cultures, and is being absorbed by many other religions and cultures.

Many celebrities have been spotted wearing the trend like Lindsay Lohan (you know, to protect her in jail--again), Rhianna, Kim Kardashian (to ward off the bad mojo from a fake wedding?) and Vanessa Hudgens just to name few. Many designers have developed their own perspective on the trend, leaving the diversity of evil eye jewelry to be unfathomable, and ultimately exclusive.

A few of my favorite pieces are by Coby Madison, an online jewelry boutique, where the range of diversity is evident. Their blissful 14k evil eye necklace with a touch of light turquoise, adds the perfect amount of class and elegance to any outfit and is priced at $720. Another stylish piece is their men’s black cuff bracelet, with a diamond evil eye - a really funky casual piece that can definitely be worn by women as well and is sold for $550.

Gastineau Glamour Jewelry, a mother-daughter style team who create luxury inspired jewelry, also hold chic evil eye pieces. Their diamond drop earrings with white evil eye inserts and their chunky necklace in their bold green color, are my style picks from their collection sold on HSN. Another gorgeous design is brought to us by Sydney Evan, which is the image above, a sapphire evil eye bracelet.

Charm Jewelry Public Relations: Pandora

Remember those tacky charm bracelets with collectible charms you used to buy for mom, your best friend or yourself? Your favorite holiday charm, your heritage’s flag or maybe just your initials, crested on your choice of gold or silver, were all so exhilarating to purchase as a next addition to your most cherished jewelry piece.  You can have it all back with a fresh more mature approach with Pandora Jewelry.

I wouldn’t vouch for such jewelry box must-haves if I didn’t own a few of the designer’s pieces myself!  Each piece I own is an everyday type of accessory.  I sleep, shower, and pretty much do everything with my sterling silver Pandora clasp bracelet.  This bracelet is joined by a cross symbol pendant and two spacers, one spacer on each side of the pendant to keep it centered. I can say with poise that I am in love with, and now addicted to Pandora’s products. I received this as a gift, and has been my favorite gift ever received, by far!

The great thing about purchasing these fabulous pieces is that you can do so in increments, at your own pace and budget.  Buy that special someone an elegant, classy bracelet just because; then warm her heart on Valentine’s Day with a stunning charm.  It also leaves room to keep the bracelet simple, or garnish it as much as you please!  You can wear certain charms one day, and rock the contradictory the next.  Have fun and play dress up as you once did!  You’re never too old to enjoy these girlish delights!

An average sterling silver bracelet by Pandora ranges between $65-$100.  Charms or pendants can range on average from $30-$400 depending on your choice of metal and additional material.  You will find prices below and above those averages as well.

Another beloved piece of mine is what I call my Pandora ring set.  I wear three different rings all on one finger creating a stacked ring set.  A jewelry piece like this is extremely unique, which one can make their own.  For each of the past holidays: Christmas, my birthday, and payday I have treated myself to one of these rings, until I eventually created my own magnum opus! Each of the rings purchased ranged from an affordable price of $30-$80 each.

Sterling silver and gold aren’t the only materials used; leather bracelets and Murano glass beads are other notorious trademarks of the company. At a more affordable price than Tiffany’s or David Yurman, Pandora Jewelry can be ordered from the company’s website Pandora.net or found at your local fine jewelry store.

Jewelry in Pantone's Tangerine Tango for 2012

The rays of the sun are soon to shine.   The bronze tones are soon to appear on the skin.  And most importantly, the fabulous colors of the year, and more specifically of the season, are coming into play when accessorizing our wardrobes for spring of 2012.  Tangerine Tango has been selected as Pantone’s hottest color for spring of 2012.  When viewing the color palette on pantone.com, it is not your archetypal tangy orange color you’d imagine, I would go as far as categorizing it closer to a coral color tone.

This spring, pair Aurelie Bidermann’s Enamel Choker Necklace, priced at $3,365, with a simple, white classic day dress.  You can’t go wrong with this vibrant color.  This unique piece is modestly deeper toned than Pantone’s more muted ‘Tangerine Tango,’ yet still lies in the shade’s vicinity and spring’s prevailing style.

Another adored piece I marvel at is this very natural looking Jasper Necklace, at a budget-friendly $395.  The stone motif also resembles that of the coral motif in the previous jewelry piece, emanating that outdoor, beachy feel.  While the description says "pink" it looks to be a more muted orange. These patterns and color combinations are the hottest jewelry trends we will see ubiquitously in spring of 2012!

I found this atypical Marc by Marc Jacobs Star-Sliced Bangle to be drool-worthy.  Paired with a more edgy ensemble, maybe a black sweater dress, tights, and a pair of black leather boots, this piece price is quite easy on the pocket at $48.

Just as the sun continues to shine each spring, so do the warm tones in our wardrobes and accessories. Do you have a favorite piece of jewelry in your closet in the Tangerine Tango shade?  Or do you have a substitute spring favorite color for 2012? Let us know at @PierceMattiePR.

Men's Wedding Band Trend: Verragio's Textured Metals

Lets face it: When you are getting married and you mention to your guy that it's time to go ring shopping for him, it might be an easier task to move a mountain. Ultimately he will probably just let his bride-to-be pick out the ring for him. Most men don’t know anything about jewelry and they are fine with that. Wedding rings all look the same (in an untrained man's mind anyway.) Verragio for men has created textured metal wedding bands that allow for more self-expression and individuality. You might even be able to get him to want to go check them out with you.

These rings are very cool because they are not just a chunk of metal wrapped around your finger. They have personality. They feature classic designs with cutting edge technology. Some have smooth lines running around the ring, some have intricate crisscrossing patterns and for those who want to keep it simple some are smooth on top with designs in the side. There is something for everyone and every style. Women spend a lot of time picking out the perfect ring. They want to be individual and unique. Verragio textured metal rings allow men to do the same. Who doesn’t want to be the guy with that cool ring that people are talking about?

These bands are good-looking and unique but they are quality made too, which means they are going to last. Each ring comes in palladium, gold and platinum. Tell us your favorite designs @PierceMattiePR

High Chi Energy Jewelry: Ancient Ideas with Modern Style

Jewelry has long been sought after to make us look beautiful and establish our individuality. Men have dug in the earth for the precious metals and stones that make up the most sought after jewelry today all for the sake of beauty. What if the jewelry you were wearing could do more than just make you look beautiful? What if it would benefit your health emotionally, mentally and physically?

The designers of High Chi Energy Jewelry believe that the biggest pollution problems are harmful electromagnetic fields, which are produced by any electrically charged device. They believe these have negative effects on the human body. The idea is based on ancient Egyptian philosophies regarding good and bad energy. High Chi “energizes” the jewelry’s metal to help defend against negative energy. After 15 years of research it has become more than just jewelry, it is about healing for them too.

It might sound like something out of this world, especially in a western culture, but High Chi jewelry is beautiful regardless. The geometric patterns make it look like something straight from the ancient Egyptian culture. High Chi is the perfect accessory to add variety to your jewelry collection. High Chi offers rings, earrings, pendants, necklaces and men’s jewelry. If you are looking for something new or just different you will surely be able to find something to fit your specific personality at www.highchi.com. Who knows, maybe you will experience some inner healing too.

Jewelry PR: Diamond in the Rough Aims to Disrupt the Fine Jewelry Industry

diamind%20in%20the%20rough.jpg

Diamond in the Rough (http://www.diamondintherough.com) has one simple goal: to disrupt the world of diamond jewelry.  It's with this in mind that they re-launch their e-commerce store, making rough diamond jewelry available for purchase anywhere in the United States. The new website aims to educate consumers on the beauty of diamonds in their natural form, and showcase Diamond in the Rough's one of a kind engagement rings, wedding bands, and fine jewelry.

While luxury brands typically build their business first through brick and mortar retail, Diamond in the Rough will be doing the opposite, relying on their fresh, simple, and elegant site to communicate with consumers. Unlike many of their peers, Diamond in the Rough requires site visitors to sign in using a name, password and e-mail address to view the collection much like popular members-only sale sites. Since each piece is one of a kind, inventory changes quickly and the brand plans to utilize this information to keep customers informed about availability. In addition, the site aims to emulate the level of service customers would receive at a store through various online customer service tools such as live chat, real-time use of social media platforms, and traditional e-mail and phone representatives. The brand will also be offering a 30-day return policy and free overnight shipping.

Leading the rebranding effort is newly designated CEO of Diamond in the Rough, Monica Chambers.  "I'm delighted to be a part of Diamond in the Rough at such an exciting time for the company.  Our product is extraordinary, it has a point of view, and it finally gives a woman something radically new in the world of diamonds," said Chambers. She is a recent Harvard Business School graduate with a keen understanding of the digital space. Her prior positions as JWT, AG Properties, and Columbia Records focused on the intersection of marketing, media, and technology, making her an invaluable asset to the company as they look to build their web-based luxury business.

Chambers adds, "My background is in media and I absolutely believe that the future of marketing lies in the intersection of content and commerce.  We aim to entertain and inform, never to interrupt. While this approach isn't foreign to e-commerce, luxury brands, particularly fine jewelry brands, have been slow to jump on board."

Diamond in the Rough intends to focus heavily on social media to create brand awareness, brand preference, and to drive sales. Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr are already key components of their online marketing strategy, with Pinterest and other sites gaining traction due to their viral nature.
