Heidi Klum does QVC...and sells out!

This month Heidi Klum had her first appearance on QVC to launch her collection for Mouawad. This highly anticipated debut certainly got a big piece of the QVC pie. Her appearance was well received and everyone loved her pieces as the collection sold out of 14 of 16 styles in the first 36 minutes. Klum’s collection is inspired from a four leave clover as well as the pattern from the Duomo in Milan. (Duomo is the Italian word for the church in the middle of the city/town. Most Italian cities have a Duomo—Milan’s is the most well known for its gothic architecture.)

heidi-klum-1.jpg

Personally, I really like this collection. I love the playfulness of the shamrock but I love that it can also be dressed up (ie. Heidi at the Emmy’s this year.) It could also be that I love Heidi Klum and everything she does! The nice thing is that, if one can’t afford the pieces from Heidi’s collection, there are options with similar designs and styles. My favorite kind of steal is from Endless Diamonds. They have similar pieces with a diamond in the center of the pendant.

Either way, we can all look beautiful in diamonds! After all, they are a girl’s best friend!

Jewelry: "and Then Take One Piece Off"

caviar_perals_jewelry_pr.jpg

A favorite line of accessories editors the world around is "and then take one piece" off referring to the rule of removing one piece of jewelry after you are fully dressed and prepared for the day.

Of course another editor tip through the ages has been stretching a wardrobe of basics through clever jewelry usage. But if you are instructed to constantly downsize your accessorising options for day is it possible that you need a wardrobe of jewelry basics too?

Given the classic popularity of a string of pearls, diamond stud earrings, and the tennis bracelet it seems that jewelry lovers the world over agree. This makes discovering the right pieces of jewelry for your even more critical. Even the classics make different statements. Pearls make any outfit more conservative whereas a diamond stud is a classic touch that ups the elegance factor on any outfit. The same principles of choosing basics in clothing applies to jewelry.

But remember even when the editors appear to know better than we mere mortals do it can be good to break the law sometimes and throw it all on. You can always take a few pieces off at the end of the night. That is still technically following the laws of accessorising right?

Oprah Jewelry Wins Award

Canada's Excellence in Design 2006 competition awarded the top prize in the diamond category to designer Tracy Borlase for her Oprah Winfrey-inspired diamond necklace.

Borlase—originally from South Africa—said the piece was designed for one of her clients who was set to appear on the Oprah Winfrey Show. She created the necklace "O Afrique" as a tribute to her own heritage and Winfrey's African heritage. The small "O" shaped pendant represents the disc-shaped jewelry popular in Africa and also stands for "Oprah." It also features a zebra-striped pattern of 225 black and white diamonds, and hangs from a black, rhodium-plated, 14-karat white-gold chain.

The 35-year-old designer ran a successful business and studio in Johannesburg, South Africa, before deciding to move to Toronto eight years ago. She made the move to get away from a violent post-Apartheid climate where, as a young woman, she felt increasingly at risk.

Excellence in Design 2006 is the first competition Borlase has entered since arriving in Canada. The annual competition is sponsored by Canadian Jeweller and Jewellers Vigilance Canada.

Celebrities Take Jewelry Personally

When it comes to the red carpet, not everyone is content to don the inspirations of jewelers, some celebrities would rather wear their own creations.

satya_butterfly.jpg

Courteney Cox and husband, David Arquette, recently teamed up with Satya to create this etched sterling butterfly necklace with black silk cord ($24). Understood to be a yoga-inspired jewelry line, Satya incorporates symbolism into each of its pieces and the butterfly is the symbol of hope and freedom. As part of that message, Satya is donating 100% of the pendant’s proceeds to the Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research, a foundation seeking to find a cure for the rare skin disease. According to Satya, this charity is of special to significance to the Arquette’s who has someone in their lives who has been affected by the disease.

Tori Spelling has caught the jewelry bug as well, launching her line, Maven, exclusive to the Home Shopping Network. Tori attributes the inspiration for her accessories to herself and claims the jewelry is what she would want to wear.

The 12-piece collection features gold-tone metals and semi-precious stones, retailing for prices of $29 to $129. Surprisingly, the collection does not feature any pieces for pedigrees. There's always next year, Mimi LaRue.

Ellen Pompeo Is Roped In By Fred Leighton Jewelry

ellen_pompeo_fred_leighton_rope_necklace_edited.jpg

Everyone is talking about Ellen Pompeo's Fred Leighton rope necklace that she wore last night at the Emmy Awards. The gold rope necklace with tassles seems to be either loved or hated as red carpet fashionista's lend their opinions as to best and worst of celebrity style. While I usually prefer diamond and gemstone jewelry, I think this necklace fit in with her style perfectly.

Ellen Pompeo's style at the Emmys was glamorous, old-world like; just like Fred Leighton's jewelry. Known for his 19th century antique and Art Deco pieces, Fred Leighton's necklace seems to have been inspired from curtain tie backs from years past--yet there is nothing domestic and ordinary about it.

Fred Leighton Jewelry has adorned many celebrities necklines and fingers such as Debra Messing, Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Lopez, for red carpet events . Fashion Industry leaders such as Vera Wang and Oscar de la Renta have also come to recognize Fred Leighton's collection and design as timeless and classic. As for Ellen Pompeo, Fred Leighton's necklace was able to bring old Hollywood into the 21st century without looking too modern.

What did you think of Ellen Pompeo's rope necklace?

Most admit (or at least I do) that they watch the Oscar's for the dresses and fashion savvy (or lack thereof) seen on the red carpet. Least we forget about the gorgeous jewelry that will take your breath away? Here are some of my favorites from Oscar's 80th:

Jacob the Jeweler Sentenced to Federal Prison

Jacob Arabov, aka Jacob the Jeweler, will be reporting to federal prison come January 2009. For 30 months the jeweler well known for his celebrity following, will be serving his time for falsifying records and giving false statements to prosecutors regarding a case involving the laundering of drug profits. Jacob had an amazing talent and keen eye for incredible design in jewelry, it's unfortunate, but as the saying goes, crime doesn't pay.

You can read the complete story in National Jeweler. What will this mean for Jacob's jewelry company while he is away and once he gets out? We'd love to hear what you think.

Rachel Bravman: Publicist turned Jewelry Designer

Everything Rachel Bravman touches turns to gold. Yes, most of the fashion jewelry she designs for her line Rachel Leigh is already a gold color, but her finishing touch turns the celebrity coveted baubles into editorial gold.

Bravman was working as an Yves Saint Laurent publicist when she launched her jewelry line in the fall of 2004. The line was a direct answer to demands for luxury fashion jewelry that could compliment designs featured in the best fashion editorials. What resulted was a fun yet fashion forward jewelry empire worn by all the Hollywood "It" girls.

The Pearl Remains the Main Political Choice

“Reaching across the aisle” is one of the many phrases heard repeatedly from the mouths of Presidential hopefuls recently.  The only aisles I want to talk about are the glass ones that the ladies of the campaign are strolling to acquire such wonderful statement jewelry.

In the same way we commented on the Vice Presidential debates and the town hall formatted Presidential debate, I will bring to you a political jewelry report—sans fact checking.  We will let C-SPAN, CNN and MSNBC do the job of commenting on the political rhetoric.

What’s the style receiving ‘bi-partisan wearership’?  It should come as no surprise that both parties’ ladies are donning the ever-classic strand of pearls.  We’ve seen the large strands Michelle Obama wears often to balance out her more non-traditional suit silhouettes.  Cindy McCain flaunts a traditional set in most public appearances, as well.

Hot Jewelry Alert, Look Out For Padma Pakshimi’s New Line

Beautiful AND talented model-turned-cookbook author-turned-television host, Padma Pakshimi, is now adding ‘jewelry designer’ to her résumé.  In the November issue of Harper’s Bazaar, she spilled the beads…I mean beans.

Padma told the magazine that the development of a line of Indian-inspired jewelry is currently underway right out of her Manhattan apartment with the help of one designer and one assistant. Padma joins Heidi Klum in the world of models turned jewelry designers but makes sure to note her more modest approach to Vanity Fair, “My success is [my two business partners’] success…I wasn’t a Sports Illustrated Model.  I’m sure that those girls made a *@!#load more money than I did.”

padma lakshimi

If Padma’s unique taste in her super chic digs (photographed for Harper’s Bazaar by Douglas Friedman above) are any indication for what we should expect for her jewelry line, then we are in for a very pleasant surprise.

Golden Globes Jewelry Understated Yet Sophisticated

Could the economy have played a role in the lack of excess jewelry that we saw on the red carpet for the Golden Globes last night? The overall jewelry theme appeared to be understated yet sophisticated; elegant but not over the top. We all love the glitz and glamour of the red carpet, but did anyone else notice a typically key jewelry piece missing from most celebrities looks? I sure did: the necklace.

Here are some celebrities whose jewelry was minimalistic, but still made a great overall complement to their fashion style.

In 2009 jewelry is all about making a statement. Costume jewelry is making a comeback due to the economy with big, bold jewelry being the ultimate fashion essential this Spring. Big and colorful statement jewelry were everywhere at the Golden Globes this year with big earrings, huge necklaces and standout bracelets. When it comes to the runway this season, boring is bad--statement jewelry will be catching attention with its big colorful baubles.

DeBeers, the World's Largest Diamond Mine, Partners with Kim Kardashian

In 2006 the diamond business in Botswana was booming. Since the discovery of diamonds in 1967, it has been nearly 40 years of constant growth in Africa. But, when sales start to decline (a whopping 68% recently), Botswana tries to keep up by “keeping up with the Kardashians.” On Kim Kardashian’s recent stint to the diamond industry in Africa through Russell Simmon’s Diamond Empowerment Fund, DeBeers hired her to promote diamonds from Botswana to the United States.

Van Cleef & Arpels Jewelry Marketing with Heidi Klum

Can you really own a clover? As jewelry designers attempt to trademark more and more designs I have to wonder, can you really say you own the clover? According to New York Magazine this week Heidi Klum elected to shut down her jewelry line over the legal pursuits of Van Clef & Arpels. So this I feel brings up a good question, can you really own these designs? Doesn’t this remind you of two other design symbols that are very overdone, the bumble bee used by everyone from Joan Rivers Jewelry on QVC to Mary K Cosmetics and also the Butterfly coined by Neiman Marcus but so loved by Mariah Carey, enough to inspire her Elizabeth Arden fragrance. So why can’t we just let Heidi have the clover? I seriously doubt the consumers who buy into her brand and image are the same that shop at Bergdorf Goodman. Thoughts?

DIAMONDS, their strength and brilliance sparkled on the red carpet as Emmy nominees and Hollywood's elite shined in thrilling diamond fashions at the 61st Annual Emmys.

Alex Woo designs "tree of life" for Christina Applegate's foundation Right Action for Women

LeavesofChange.jpg

New York jeweler Alex Woo has designed a delicately branched "tree of life" pendant, in gold or silver, to benefit actress Christina Applegate's foundation Right Action for Women, which helps women at increased risk for breast cancer get the information and testing they need to beat the disease.

"Since losing my mother to breast cancer when she was much too young, I have always been active in the fight against it," Woo said. The opportunity to work with Christina to design a piece to benefit Right Action for Women was tremendous given the inspiration she has provided to millions of young women."

In this design, Woo wanted to not only signify balance, peace and harmony in the shape of the tree and branches but also incorporate the feminine curves of a woman. Woo added 7 leaves to represent each day of the week, as a reminder to live each day to it's very fullest.

Celebrity Jewelry Design: Brangelina Create Protector, Jane Seymour Open Heart

What does Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Jane Seymour have in common? Well, other than their influential star power, they are all designing significant collections for reputable jewelry stores.

The London-based Asprey has just landed a deal with Brangelina (as in Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie) for the silver and gold, limited-edition Protector collection (pieces starting at $525) just in time for the holidays. Many of the pieces in the Protector collection have snakes-like designs. Jolie consider the serpent to be a protector of her family, when she wore a reptile-like ring when pregnant with one of her children.

The collection will be available in London, New York, Beverly Hills, Tokyo and Dubai after the Thanksgiving holiday. All proceeds from this collection will go to the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, an organization that raises awareness and funds to educate children of war. Golden Globes: Statement Earrings with Bulgari, Ofira Schwartz and Chopard

It wasn't too difficult to notice a jewelry trend among celebrities last night at the Golden Globes as so many went sans necklace (although Julia Roberts' Van Cleef and Arpels necklace kind of made up the difference for everyone else.) Jewelry Lessons from Anna Nicole Smith

In the wake of Valentine’s Day proposals and fabulous gift giving, the lucky ones are smiling from ear to ear as they flash their diamond-encrusted rings or dazzling earrings. As celebrities are constantly dripping in these priceless diamonds from red carpet appearances to glitzy photo shots, their care for these extravagant pieces are minimal.

Taking notes from the late 1993 Playmate of the Year, Anna Nicole Smith, the everyday women can learn important does and don’ts when catering to her sentimental jewels.

Don’t Get Taken Advantage of: Before purchasing your diamond you want to do a little bit of comparison pricing. Don’t feel the need to buy name brands, remember you want to get more bling for your buck!

Do Buy Insurance: Similar to that of homeowners insurance, jewelry insurance will protect your valuable pieces from being lost, damaged or stolen. A quick appraisal is required before your priceless pieces can be insured.

Don’t be Trashy be Classy: Don’t let trendy styles rule your purchase. Purchase something that is classic and timeless, after all this is an investment piece.

HSN Partners With Entertainment Icon Liza Minnelli for the Exclusive Launch of The Liza Collection June 30

Who doesn't love iconic singer and actress, Liza Minnelli? At least that is what HSN is betting on when Liza kicks off HSN's programming on June 30th to celebrate their 33rd birthday with the launch of The Liza Collection. This collection consists of fashion and jewelry that is said to be inspired by her wardrobe throughout her career. The timing could not be more perfect as Sex and the City 2 premiers this week, in which Liza has a cameo role. SATC fanatics are more crazed about the fashion than the plot line which hopefully carries over (no pun intended) to the entertainer's debut in the fashion category.

First Lady Michelle Obama's SUTRA JEWELS Earrings

obama%20jewelry.jpg

First Lady Michelle Obama chose to wear a pair of SUTRA JEWELS' blue  sapphire and diamond earrings to the second official State Dinner held at the White House on May 19, 2010.

This is the second time Michelle Obama has worn pieces from SUTRA JEWELS to an official event. SUTRA JEWELS is clearly becoming a  favorite of the First Lady.

Fine jewelry by SUTRA JEWELS is a fresh take on classic designs, inspired by the luxurious shapes of the Edwardian era, and infused with the contemporary, electric edge of the Art Deco period. SUTRA'S pieces are stunning and artistic, an instant favorite of the effortlessly chic modern woman.

Jewelry PR: The Eclipse Engagement Ring

As if the excitement for the release of Eclipse on June 30th wasn't enough, you can now own jewelry based on what Bella Swan wears in the 3rd installment of the Twilight Saga. Infinite Jewelry Company and Stephenie Meyer have collaborated to give Twilight fans a more intimate connection to the lead characters via jewelry. Best of all, you can now own Bella's engagement ring, that is not only beautiful, but comes in 3 price points to make it affordable for anyone's wallet (considering most Twilight fans are still in their teens.)

Bella's Engagement Ring, which comes in Yellow and White Gold (plating if you select "fashion"), carries 13 stones; Russian CZ's if you choose the Fashion Engagement Ring ($35), brilliant cut CZ's if you choose the Fine Engagement Ring ($479) and brilliant cut, SI1 clarity, G-H color diamonds (1.06 carats) if you choose the Genuine Engagement Ring ($1979.)

My prediction is that these will sell out quickly, especially due to the way in which the jewelry company is offering them, which I think was a very smart move. So will your love for all things Twilight drive you to purchase this ring?

Red Carpet Jewelry from the 2010 Emmy's

Did you watch the Emmy Awards last night? The jewelry seen on the Red Carpet was amazing! Although I was surprised to see some celebrities wearing minimal, if any jewelry at all. As usual, overstated, over-the-top, statement jewelry was the jewelry trend last night and the  favorite metal had to be Platinum (and I loved every minute of it!)

By far, jewelry from Lorraine Schwartz had to be the hands down celeb favorite of the night. From Heid Klum to Sofia Vergara to Emily Blunt to Lea Michele to Jane Krakowski, so many celebrities were wearing her intricate and embellished jewelry. My favorite had to be the necklace worn by Lea Michele, who just looked amazing all together, I don't think there was a single fashion or beauty don't with her last night!

Cartier was were worn by celebrities like January Jones (did you see that dress? Yikes!) and Dianna Agron.

I was excited to hear that Naya Rivera's ring and brooch were from Le Vian. (Le Vian is my most favorite jewelry brand!) The ring was 14K set in strawberry gold and the brooch was a multi-colored Sapphire flower. The jewelry was simple and brilliant, her hair? Not so much.

Which celebrity wore your favorite jewelry of the night?

Jewelry PR: Mariah Carey Jewelry Comes to HSN

Despite all of the rumors about Mariah Carey lately (is she pregnant or isn't she), one thing we know is not rumor is that she is launching a lifestyle line of products with HSN. Coming November 29, the pop diva will have branded footwear, her fragrance Lucious Pink, as well as jewelry as part of her collection of wares that will sell on the Home Shopping Network. Obviously the buzz points to a theme of pink and butterflies, but I can hardly imagine anything tacky or gaudy coming from Mariah in this collection, especially if HSN is backing it (but maybe I am speaking too soon.)

Seems like many celebrities are hopping on the branded merchandise-home shopping bandwagon to tap into an alternative revenue stream. Liza Minelli launched a jewelry line on HSN earlier this year, and of course there's Tori Spelling, Paula Abdul, Molly Sims...all on HSN as well.

Are you looking forward to this lifestyle collection from Mariah...or should she just stick to singing?

Jewelry PR: Faith Based Jewelry Going Strong

In a time when consumers are looking for hope and to purchase products that hold meaning, it's no surprise that jewelry that symbolizes faith or spirituality have emerged as a popular jewelry trend. What we choose to wear in terms of fashion and accessories has always been an outer reflection of our inner selves. So faith based jewelry only further aligns with this type of personal branding, which has become more prevalent as social networks make us our own PR machine.

Jewelry containing the cross or another form of religious symbolism has been around for ages, so is this really news? Yes, because spiritual jewelry is branching out to go beyond being associated with a specific faith, but instead represent various spiritual sayings and beliefs on a global scale that isn't tied to any specific faith-based group. A something for everyone type of trend...that has been fueled by celebrities of course.

Is there a faith/spiritual jewelry brand that you find yourself purchasing items from? We'd love to hear about it!

Tiger Woods Ex Jewelry Auction

Elin Nordegren continues to wow me with the graceful way she is handling such a high profile divorce from her well known cheating ex, Tiger Woods. Unlike other celebrities who air their dirty laundry, Nordegren has kept a low profile. And in a continuation of showing the upmost class, she is looking to turn another painful memory into an effort for something positive.

Nordegren will be auctioning off the jewelry Woods gave her during the course of their 5-year marriage (including her engagement ring) through Sotheby's, with some of the money raised earmarked for a mental health clinic that Nordegren is looking to start (she is currently pursuing a degree in Psychology), and some of the other portion raised will also go to charitable causes. Some of the jewelry comes from fine jewelry brands such as Cartier, Harry Winston and Tiffany & Co.

The auction has been projected to yield approximately $2.5 million. Would you buy one of Nordegren's jewelry pieces? I'm guessing it would make a good conversation starter.

Jewelry PR: Angelina Jolie Launches Her Own Celebrity Jewelry Line

Angelina Jolie is now stepping foot into the jewelry design aspect, this time for a good cause, as a means to benefit her charity Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, which as we know, Jolie is very passionate about children in turbulent and underprivileged countries. The collection of luxury jewelry is as a result of a collaboration with Robert Procop, the designer she and Brad Pitt teamed up with last year for Asprey.

While many are disappointed that the collection will only be available to Procop's network of clients, I think this is a very smart marketing move. The exclusivity of the collection will drive a much higher pricepoint and certainly make those wealthy enough to afford the pieces willing to pay top dollar to own one. And as we know in marketing and PR, exclusivity means everything these days. Besides, Jolie's goal is to fund her charity, making the bottom line about money raised...not on how many fingers, wrists and necks her jewelry can be found on.

What do you think?

Celebrity Jewelry PR: Sharon Stone Launches Her Diamond Collection

Here's what you do when you've had a successful acting career and then want to make a comeback...you launch a jewelry collection. Sharon Stone is the latest celebrity trying on the hat of jewelry designer. However, mockery aside of the celebrities cum jewelry designer trend, Stone's collection is for a good cause benefiting the charity, Drop in the Bucket, to supply clean water to communities in Africa. The Maji Collection was a collaboration with DAMIANI and is said to be the first of a series of collections Stone will co-design.

What's interesting is that the collection revolves around diamonds, which is one of the most profiltable yet controversial industries in Africa. The earrings, rings, pendants and bracelet, all signed by Stone and DAMIANI, were launched in Beverly Hills earlier this month, where Stone looked amazing if I do say so myself.

Snooki from The Jersey Shore's NEW PR & Marketing Strategy - A Jewelry Line

Honestly, I thought Snooki's venture into product promotion would be with hair spray or spray tanning, but jewelry? It appears that Snooki has partnered with DiamondShark, a jewelry deal of the day site, to launch what is said to be the first piece from her jewelry line.

The 2011 Snooki Party Ball is a limited edition pendant containing 1 carat of pink sapphire gemstones retailing for $49. All snark aside, it's actually very pretty. And although it's deemed a party ball, the pendant is jewelry that can worn year round.

What do you think about Snooki designing jewelry? Will it extend her 15 minutes of fame and make people take her more seriously? Or will the popularity fade just like a fake tan?

Find it at www.DiamondShark.com.

Amy Adam PR's Cartier Jewelry at the Oscars

Luxury jewelry brand, Cartier, certainly cemented some publicity last night on the Oscar's red carpet. Amy Adams, who I loved in The Fighter, wore an exquisite array of jewelry from the prestigious jewelry retailer that I'm pretty sure required body guards to be present (for the jewelry not Adams!) just due to the sheer magnitude of the value: $1.35 million.

The contrast between Adams' porcelin skin and the emerald jewelry was gorgeous. Since Adams' L"wren Scott gown did most of the shimmer, the jewelry chosen was simple and elegant and one did not detract from the other.

On her wrist, she wore a platinum and diamond Haute Joaillerie secret watch bracelet. The emerald alone was 30.75-carats! It also featured 575 diamonds. Her earrings were a pair of platinum and diamond 2-carat stud earrings; a really great choice in my opinion--simple and understated. The Cartier necklace was also platinum and diamonds with a 33.24-carat emerald.

What did you think of Amy Adams' jewelry?

Tom Binns Design: Dada Movement-Inspired Jewelry Line

A jewelry line worn by the best of the best, Tom Binns Design, was founded by jeweler Tom Binns and CEO, Cristina Viera Newton. Tom Binns Design jewelry has always been in the headlines because of its unique jewelry designs. Binns’ inspiration comes from the Dada movement whose themes are deliberate irrationality, anarchy, and the rejection of standard beauty and social organization. He uses these elements to create very unique and elegant jewelry.

His jewelry has been featured in magazines all over the world and has been worn by many people including models, singers, actors, and even Michelle Obama. Just last month Tom Binns Design was featured on the Vogue Australia Cover, Vogue Japan Cover, W Magazine cover, Marie Claire US Cover, and in many other media articles. It was also featured as one of the designers for Vogue Daily’s California Love: 25 Designers Who Are All About the West Coast article. Along with Adam Selman, Tom Binns designed Rihanna’s much-talked about custom-made outfit with Swarovski Crystals that she wore to a concert in Baltimore in June.

Tom Binns loves creating unique pieces, and so when Tim Burton was creating the movie, Alice in Wonderland, Binns was the obvious choice to design an Alice-inspired jewelry line. The line included 35 pieces and was so successful that it is talked about even today!

Jewelry News: Kim Kardashian's Diamond Wedding Headband

Just in case you live under a rock, Kim Kardashian got married to Kris Humphries this past weekend in front of 440+ guests (including many A-list celebs) at a private estate in Montecito, California. Too add to all of the wedding day mystery, the press (with the exception of E!) were not allowed to take photos or videos...not even guests. But as E! began to report on the wedding, being the trend setter that Kim is, buzz began not just about her 3 wedding wardrobe changes...but about her Loraine Schwartz diamond headband.

In lieu of a necklace, Kim wore this bejeweled piece along with her veil. On it's own, I thought it was very pretty and a different take from the traditional pearl headpieces we are used to seeing. However, paired with the veil, it seemed a bit odd. If you pop on over to InStyle's post about it, the before the veil picture is very Elizabeth Taylor-ish; she looks stunning. But during the nuptials with the veil? Gorgeous still, of course, but the contrast of the oversized diamond earrings mixed with the headhband and veil just seem to make everything look off kilter.

What did you think about Kim Kardashian's diamond headband? Tweet us @PierceMattiePR.

Jessica Simpson Starts Marketing Her Jewelry at Zales

Most of us thought Jessica Simpson's career ended when she emerged on her Newlyweds reality TV show as a ditzy blonde confused about Chicken of the Sea...then further thought she'd flop when she began to struggle with her weight and had zero fashion sense to dress for her shape...and even when The Price of Beauty never really left the launchpad, we all realized there was still something about Jessica Simpson that was a moneymaker. And while everyone wants to rain on her parade, I'm pretty sure she has a diamond encrusted umbrella to laugh all the way to the bank with.

Her latest venture is jewelry related as she begins to market her new partnership with Zales for her collection of Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend. The line is naturally centered around diamonds (since Zales is The Diamond Store after all.) Zales has the collection angled as diamond fashion jewelry to align with her recognition as a fashion brand (available online and via Macy's.)

The collection, which will be available exclusively at Zales, debuts in October in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico. Will she succeed as jewelry designer? Tweet us @piercemattiepr with your thoughts!

Project Accessory: Jewelry Reality TV

Spin-offs. Either they flop or are an instant hit. Uber popular Project Runway's spin off, Project Accessory, appears to be faltering on flop. Molly Sims (who really is no Heidi Klum) hosts this spin-off alongside Eva Jeanbart-Lorenzotti (who??) where 12 designers will compete for $100,000 to start their own fashion accessories line.

The construct and plot of Project Accessory are exactly the same as Project Runway and include a celebrity judge...although on the first episode that judge was Debra Messing. Huh? Now don't get me wrong, I love Debra Messing, but explain to me how she fits into the accessory world. I also would've loved to see a little more creativity rather than follow the same types of design challenges, drama, juding, etc. The show is based on creativity, am I right? So why not get creative with the script for this show?

Project Accessory can be seen on Lifetime at 10pm every Thursday. Did you watch the debut episode? What did you think? Tweet us @PierceMattiePR.

Jewelry Trends for Fall and Winter: Rocker Chic

This season's rising jewelry trend follows the path of 'go big or go home'. We’ve been seeing a lot of statement jewelry with big and chunky rings and necklaces, not to mention combining various bangles for a more edgy look, demonstrated in Avril Lavigne’s style. This season, the chunky jewelry trend has remained but slightly shifted to a more edgy style; displaying chiseled, severe, and angular edges.

A popular collection sporting this trend is Nicole Richie’s line, House of Harlow. She designs many spectacular pieces that are significantly different from everyday jewelry; like the Triangle Armor Five Station Necklace, and one of my favorites, Triple Arrowhead Ring. The House of Harlow collection holds really exciting and thrilling pieces that soon everyone will be craving.

We see another dimension of this edgy trend through bangles and cuffs. The idea of combining different chunky bracelets is always a funky way to go, especially if you add in one of Pamela Love’s sharp creations, like her Resin Tribal Spike Cuff. Or for a slightly more 'rocker' look, the CC Skye leather studded cuff as seen in the image above.

Although silver is timeless and truly an endless classic for jewelry, gold has also made a jumping comeback in pursue of this new ‘rocker-chic’ trend. These jewelry pieces are fun to wear and ultimately make the decision of what jewelry to wear easy. Often with statement jewelry you just need that one iconic piece and your outfit is complete, if you try adding too much it might start to take away the essence of each piece, revealing a cluttered, obnoxious look.

Are you sporting this rocker chic look? Tweet us @PierceMattiePR.

Jewelry Trend: Evil Eye Jewelry

Knock wood. Good karma. The idea and belief behind wearing evil eye pieces are that the ‘eye’ essentially acts as your third eye and is in a protective position. Whoever is wearing the evil eye piece is believed to be protected from bad karma, and negative judgment. This belief is very common in the Middle East and in Greek cultures, and is being absorbed by many other religions and cultures.

Many celebrities have been spotted wearing the trend like Lindsay Lohan (you know, to protect her in jail--again), Rhianna, Kim Kardashian (to ward off the bad mojo from a fake wedding?) and Vanessa Hudgens just to name few. Many designers have developed their own perspective on the trend, leaving the diversity of evil eye jewelry to be unfathomable, and ultimately exclusive.

A few of my favorite pieces are by Coby Madison, an online jewelry boutique, where the range of diversity is evident. Their blissful 14k evil eye necklace with a touch of light turquoise, adds the perfect amount of class and elegance to any outfit and is priced at $720. Another stylish piece is their men’s black cuff bracelet, with a diamond evil eye - a really funky casual piece that can definitely be worn by women as well and is sold for $550.

Gastineau Glamour Jewelry, a mother-daughter style team who create luxury inspired jewelry, also hold chic evil eye pieces. Their diamond drop earrings with white evil eye inserts and their chunky necklace in their bold green color, are my style picks from their collection sold on HSN. Another gorgeous design is brought to us by Sydney Evan, which is the image above, a sapphire evil eye bracelet.

How many pieces of evil eye jewelry do you have your eye on? Tweet us @PierceMattiePR and let us know what you think.

Celebrity Elizabeth Taylor Jewelry Goes to Auction

Elizabeth Taylor was an icon in film, in philanthropy, in the company she kept (including having multiple husbands), but also for her amazing jewelry collection. I don't think there is anyone who has nearly the storytelling collection that she accumulated as gifts throughout her career. And now, those glorious pieces are up for auction at Christie's.

There are memorable pieces of jewelry from the best designers like Van Cleef & Arpels, Bulgari and Cartier to more sentimental pieces like a charm bracelet, a necklace of engraved ivory opera passes and a titanium elephant purse (from Michael Jackson, of course.)

Christie's is displaying the items online and in their auction house. You can purchase tickets to view the pieces, which can be seen from the 3rd of December until the 12th, however the online auction begins the 13th and ends the 16th--but you can view all of the items now on Christie's website. Can you imagine owning her 19-carat diamond ring, otherwise known as "my baby" or her emerald and diamond earrings? I wouldn't mind this emerald and diamond necklace if you have $1.5million you want to spend on me.

Do you have a favorite piece from her collection you dream of owning? Tweet us @PierceMattiePR.

Luxury Jewelry Advertising: Did Fred Rip Off David Yurman with Kate Moss Ads

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...and David Yurman knows that can come in many forms. Copying a design with a few tweaks is typically the way it is done in the jewelry industry, but if you compared French jewelry brand Fred's latest advertisements featuring Kate Moss with Yurman's from this past Spring, you may instead be saying it is a form of photographic plagiarism.

The ads compared, as seen in the NYPost, show both Yurman and Fred's print ads featuring Moss in almost identical poses containing details that seem to mirror each other. Is it a PR stunt on behalf of Fred to draw the two competitors into public controversy? Or maybe simply to generate buzz about the brand? I can think of other ways...like positioning yourself differently from your competitor, not showcasing ads that lack creativity because you stole it, for one.

What do you think? An honest mistake or purposefully done? Tweet us your thoughts @PierceMattiePR

Platinum Guild International USA Announces Its Top 3 Celebrity Engagement Ring Settings of 2011

celebrity%20jewelry%20diamond%20public%20relations.jpg

Just in time for the key holiday engagement season, Platinum Guild International USA, the US marketing arm for the platinum jewelry industry, today announced its top 3 celebrity ring settings of 2011:

  • Anne Hathaway's classic solitaire diamond on a simple platinum band
  • Reese Witherspoon's modern Ashoka cut diamond with pave diamonds set in a platinum band
  • Carey Mulligan's vintage inspired style with blue sapphires set in platinum

Luxury Jewelry PR: UK's Diamond Jubilee

What commoner doesn't dream of being a princess? With the exception of Kate Middleton actually becoming one, us ordinary folks have always been fascinated with the British Monarchy, especially their jewelry (or more specifically for me, the Queen's gorgeous collection of tiaras.)

Now as we enter into the Queen's 60th year on the throne, known as her Diamond Jubilee, the Royals' jewels are going on exhibition this summer at Buckingham Palace. On display will be the Queen's tiara's, brooches as well as many other jewelry items either passed down from previous generations or those she acquired during her reign. Specifically diamonds, as they denote longevity and strength.

For complete details on this jewelry exhibit, as well as many other exhibitions being held this year in the Queen's honor, please visit: The Royal Collection.
