Anna Sabino is the owner and designer of the successful jewelry line, Lucid New York. You may have seen her frequents tweets on Twitter, read her blog or you might be friends on Facebook. Originally from Poland, Sabino is a converted New Yorker and "couldn't feel more at home." Her jewelry is best described as fantastical. Sabino's designs allow women to portray their "inner girl," with charms including cupcakes, wishbones and cherries.
Sabino's simple, adorable and classic designs, which include earrings, necklaces and rings, are
appealing to women across the globe. Lucid New York is featured in over a hundred stores, including Tokyo, Australia and Ireland. Her designs have been featured in Vogue, and most recently in People's April 2009 issue.
When creating new pieces, Sabino sketches and plays with bits of jewelry to spark creativity. She told us that what attracts people to her jewelry is "shine, sparkle and memories." She finds crafting the jewelry herself to classical music relaxing, but Lucid New York has grown so rapidly, she's not able to fulfill her business's needs on her own (the jewelry is all still handmade!)
Her inspiration comes from observing celebrities and fashionistas. She attends Fashion Week shows and scans for upcoming trends. She believes jewelry should complement the clothing of the times.
Femininity is one of the focal points of her designs. A former glassblower, she transitioned to her current style of jewelry design from glass jewelry. She told us that she enjoys creating delicate designs even more and she realized its what women liked most. Her favorite piece is "Girl with the Jump Rope," (featured above). She said it represents her personality. "I am a woman, but a girl at heart."
As for aspiring designers, Sabino advises to "create the pieces you love and would wear."
