Jewelry Trends: Is Glass the New Jewelry Must-Have?

il_430xN.16764055.jpgIs glass the new cubic zirconia, sapphire or diamond? Glass is now the new luxury "diamond" and this economy has really helped fuel that trend. Glass is definitely a hot jewelry trend right now!

Glass is great as an accentuation piece to your personal style and something that is starting to become increasingly popular among all kinds of designers.

Actress and celebrity Eva Longoria sported a sea glass necklace set in sterling silver at the 11th Annual Environmental Media Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, CA. (Photo and necklace can be seen on www.sarantos.com)

The most notable forms of glass art and jewelry are made by glass beadmaking, glass casting, glass fusing, glass blowing, and glass staining. Some examples that I've come across are:

Etsy Glass - Etsy is one site showcasing plenty of glass jewelry designers from far and wide. Each designer has a unique style when working with glass. Some like the bright and colorful array of lampwork beading, while others prefer decorating with decoupaged images or dried flowers. The selection on the collaborative site is amazing and worth the browse.

Trezora
- known for its fused and dicroic glass jewelry

Emeshel
- offers jewelry as well as sculptures and dishwares

Diane Page
- known for the beads in their custom jewelry

What glass jewelry pieces do you own? What kind of glass is it? Once the economy rebounds do you see glass jewelry continuing to be a staple?
