Jewelry PR: The New Source of Diamonds - Canada

Canada is the new place for high quality diamonds. Canadian diamonds are becoming more popular and accessible on the market. How does Canada fare in this market? Compared to the conflict-ridden territories of Africa, Canada comes in at number three for the top diamond producing countries on the continent by value. Over 15 million karats of diamonds were produced from Canada in 2007. It is estimated that billions of dollars are added to the economy from the diamond production centers. Are you wearing a Canadian diamond?

Did you know that the frozen tundra of Northwestern Canada is providing gems from the mines Diavik, Snap Lake, Victor, and other smaller operations in the territory? Many of these operations and the cities nearby are supported solely by the diamond mines of the region. Canada Jewels, Brilliant Earth, and Lugaro Jewellers are just a few suppliers crafting rings, earrings, pendants, and bracelets from the shiny stones. A fine IF-quality 1Ct Canadian diamond has a price point above $10K (slightly lower than those coming from other sources.) Whereas African blood diamonds fund militia efforts and disturb peace and the sustainable state of affected countries, Canadian diamonds are conflict-free and have contributed to the prevention of illegal diamond trading by initiating the Kimberley Process, which is a certification for rough diamonds. Blood diamonds are also called converted diamonds, hot diamonds and war diamonds.

To find diamond authentic dealers, always ask and make sure the gems are certified by GIA, AGS, EGL, GEM, and IGI. Going strong, Diavik Diamond Mines expects its lifespan of the mine to be 16 to 22 years, providing the world with its luxury gems. The precious gems are comparable to their African counterparts in clarity, size and color. Canadian diamonds offer an unique and competitive advantage by offering conflict-free products to the peace-encouraging consumers of the Western Hemisphere.

What do you think? Will consumers seek out the Canadian diamonds more as they become available? Did you recently purchase jewelry specifically because the diamonds were conflict-free?
