Diet PR: Meridia Pulled Off Market

Looks like another diet pill has bit the dust. Abbott's Meridia has gone the way of Wyeth's Fen-phen...off the market. As with most prescription drugs, there are side effects, however Meridia's side effects appeared to target the heart more often than not. Considering that heart disease is one of the biggest killers in women combined with the fact that diet pills are commonly used among women, the diet pill was doing more harm than good.

Earlier this year GlaxoSmithKline's Alli was briefly tainted by stories of counterfeit Alli being sold that countained Meridia's main ingredient, sibutramine. Geuine Alli stills remains on the shelves and continues to be a popular OTC weight loss pill.

Have you use Meridia or another diet pill?
