Since its launch, the iPhone has become all the things anyone could want in a special partner. It can do everything from giving you directions to your favorite restaurant, to playing a wide array of video clips at the touch of a button. But never before could anyone fathom the thought of their iPhone becoming their own personal trainer.
Technology developer iTMP Technology, Inc. developed a fitness tracking and heart monitor system that was designed specifically for the iPhone. By leveraging the iPhone’s technology, they made the fitness tracking experience sleek, fun and simple.
How does it work?
SM Heart Link, which is a wireless bridge, collects data from sensors, such as heart rate chest straps and cycling sensors on bikes, and sends it to the iPhone for display and tracking. Although an iPhone user can find countless fitness apps on the iPhone, none of the other applications can actually utilize heart rate monitors or other sensors. Additionally, the app allows a multifaceted health purpose for the iPhone – bike computing, tracking and storing workouts, and even sending the data to medical assessment websites.
Calorie expenditures are broken out between fat and carbs, and they are based on your own metabolic data as opposed to population-based tables. This allows you to receive your very own custom-made feedback that provides more accurate information on your health. Although the applications are free, you will have to shell out big bucks for the module, which is set at $155. There is also the price of the assessments and sensors.
Like shopping for the perfect outfit online or completing your taxes via internet, using technology to keep track of your health is one of the most efficient ways to entice people to pay closer attention to their fitness. But yet the question remains — are we becoming too technologically dependent?
