Nike+ Women's Half Marathon: A Virtual Fitness Event

nike_half_marathon_fitness.JPG

Nike wanted to create a way for runners of all ages and experience levels that couldn’t make it to San Francisco to participate in The Nike Women’s Marathon, yet also help raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The result? Nike+ Women's Virtual Half Marathon.

Everyone who virtually runs the 13.1 virtual marathon course will receive A Nike Sports Essentials Finisher’s T-shirt and an Official Finisher Keychain designed by Tiffany & Co. This keychain is exclusive to Nike+ Women’s Half Marathon finishers and cannot be purchased in stores.

To participate, there is a fee and registration requirement. If you sign up before 9/15/07, the fee is $45; otherwise it is $55 from 9/15 forward. A portion of your entry fee benefits The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. You will also need to purchase the Nike+ system, so that your running progress can be tracked and you can receive credit for the marathon. The Virtual Marathon takes place the same day as the San Francisco Nike Women's Marathon: October 21, 2007.

To sign up for the marathon, go to the Nike+ website. Nike also has a great running blog that is worth checking out as well.
