Social Networking For Fitness Lovers

We all know that keeping focused on our fitness and weight loss goals is easier when we have an accountability partner. Many people find that a weight loss partner or someone to go to the gym with, keeps us on the right track and less likely to give up. Now social networking has found a niche in the fitness world with its own variety of fitness message boards and sites geared at helping you locate local people who are in search of a "fitness buddy."

* ontri.com: A social networking site for triathletes with coaching tips, training plans for triathlons of all distances, marathon training programs and a way to connect with other runners. Membership is free.

* Wellsphere: Find the right gym for you, indulge yourself at the best spa in town, meet some activity buddies, get advice on how to achieve your goals. Membership is free.

* MyFitTribe.com: Personal training services for members who are able to view the personal training videos and instruction online, download to computers, and upload to iPod video players, for training in the gym. Has the general social networking components (IM, profiles, friends) and blogging capability with revenue sharing. Membership fee applies.

* Traineo: You enter your weekly weight loss and fitness goals and select accountability partners who are emailed your progress each week. Visualize your progress, create your own profile page where others can post comments of encouragement (or call you a slacker if warranted) and a forum to share tips with other community members. Membership is free.

Jim Jones:

Check out RunFatBoy ( http://www.runfatboy.net)

The big distinguishing factor is that RunFatBoy will actually generate a workout plan for you based on a your level of fitness.

FitDay and all of the others can be quite daunting especially if you don't have much experience in terms of what to do once you get to the gym. The RunFatBoy site answers that question with an easy to read plan that you could print and take with you to the gym.
