Gap, the iconic brand that made khakis cool and whose jeans have graced the bodies of a laundry list of celebrities, celebrated its 40 years in the fashion industry this past August 21st. A leader of fashion pr in their own right, Gap made history by outfitting the entire New York Stock Exchange in their new 1969 Premium Jeans. In addition to the jean-clad employees of the NYSE, Gap rang the closing bell and held an acoustic concert in their stores nationwide. But can this American staple continue on for another 40 years?
I say yes. The Gap brand has seen it's ups and downs like most fashion brands...heck like most companies regardless of their niche, due in part to the economy. But the thing that makes Gap great is that it sticks to its core values as a brand. The branding always remains consistent, the style even more so and just like baseball and apple pie, Gap has become part of the American culture.
So happy anniversary Gap! Here's to many more years outfitting stylish men, women and children everywhere!
