Fashionistas everywhere are being drawn in to the world of art this summer at the Hong Kong’s Museum of Art. As a part off their annual French May Arts Festival, they are unveiling an exhibition of artwork called “Louis Vuitton: A Passion for Creation” which has been a year in the making. Chanel also went the art exhibit route when they toured with their Mobile Art campaign. Is this an emerging trend in the fashion industry--branching out into the art world to market and appeal to another demographic?
The exhibit entails works from the Fondation Louis Vuitton pour la Creation, which includes a number of significant large-scale works (paintings, photographs, video installations) by European, American and Chinese artists including works from Jeff Koons, Bertrand Lavier, Stephen Sprouse, Richard Prince, and of course Takashi Murakami. Louis Vuitton stores in Hong Kong will be dedicating window displays for the event. The exhibition will wrap up on Sunday, August 9th. Richard Prince (who collaborated with Marc Jacobs last spring) has even wrapped the whole museum with enlarged replicas of pulp fiction novel covers for the event.
In addition, come this September, Louis Vuitton plans to publish a book this with titled “Louis Vuitton: Art, Fashion and Architecture” which highlights the collaborations between Vuitton and élite artists, architects, designers, and photographers. So if you can’t hop on a plane and see the exhibit yourself in Hong Kong, buying the book is definitely a good alternative plus Vuitton combines fashion and art so amazingly well! If you’re in Hong Kong or will be traveling there be sure to hit this exhibition up. Will you be seeing this exhibit?
