These days, locking up your feet like they're prisoners is all the rage. Now that it feels a little more like spring, you can give your feet some air, but still keep them all caged up like it's winter.
Caged platforms, booties and sandals are a tremendously popular spring trend. They come in all kinds of variations, with differently shaped cutouts like triangles and ovals. They have all the edge and style of fall's popular boots and booties, but your toes won't feel like hot sausages. So, will this trend have staying power or should it be locked up for good?
Surprisingly, this trend can be found in a range of prices. This varies from the norm where high-fashion labels will pu
t out a highly desired shoe and you can't find a replica of it for less. Luckily for the rest of us, we can wear this trend and still be able to pay next month's rent.
We'll start off with the most coveted of caged booties--Yves Saint Laurent's beautiful peep-toed version. You've probably seen this one plastered all over the fashion mags. Based on the pictures, they rise a few inches above your ankle. Even the heel has the caged effect, but at a price of $1,590, you better hope it's more than just a passing trend.
A similar, and much less expensive version of the YSL cage bootie, is Topshop's Lattice Caged Sandal. It's a platform version of the caged shoe and stops at the ankle. It comes in black and metal grey and goes for only $145. Another version is the L.A.M.B by Gwen Stefani Tammy Heel, which is a sexy, strappy version.
Finally, if you're like me and you're looking for a hip sandal for the summer, try Givenchy's Caged Jellies. They run for about $174 on Zappos.com and are super cute. They're a perfect mix of sandal and sass. I'm seriously considering this as my go-to sandal for the summer.
