Michelle Obama: The "First Lady" of Fashion

Many compare her to former First Lady Jackie O as a style icon and heading into her new role as First Lady, Michelle Obama is already setting trends in the fashion industry. During those difficult months on the campaign trail, she created quite a buzz with her polished professional pieces and easygoing style. While it may seem effortless, there is more to Mrs. Obama’s style than meets the eye.

Keeping her appearance sleek and chic, Michelle is fearless in her fashion choices, often opting for what’s on the rack rather than the runway. Sporting styles from J.Crew, Gap and Ann Taylor, many have said this is the perfect public relations plan to depict Michelle Obama as the everyday American woman. Michelle’s style portrays a woman who understands the economic hard times, making her more likable and relatable to the everyday woman. Her style has even begun to drive sales. After Michele Obama’s appearance on The View, Women across America shopped at White House/Black Market after Mrs. Obama wore the label’s $148 dress.

Today at the inauguration of President Barack Obama, Michelle wore a gorgeous shift style dress with matching embossed jacket by Isabel Toledo. Her style was classic, yet modern. It is pretty much guaranteed that the yellow-gold color of her ensemble today will surely make for a spring fashion trend. There is no doubt Michelle Obama has become a fashion icon for woman everywhere to watch and admire in the upcoming years.

I really think Michelle's going to be the 1st first lady in decades to influence the way women dress. Refreshing to see some real style in the White House :)
