I don't care much for snakes--while alive--however I'll gladly take a python handbag any day. From the runway to your local department store, reptile skins are a hot trend this fall, gracing shoes and accessories across the fashion industry.
Roberto Cavalli, Gucci, Jimmy Choo and Bottega Veneta, among other designers, all have snakeskin somehow incorporated into their Fall fashion lines. Reptile skins have always been considered exotic and a symbol of luxury.
Of course, the trend also comes fraught with controversy. It is widely debated exactly how the snakes are treated for their skins. Some fashion brands limit the amount of snakeskin items as not to banish the reptile from existence, while others could possibly have dealings with illegal skin trading. Regardless of this controversy, it hasn't slowed down the demand, causing concern of endangerment.
We'd love to know what you think: Reptile skins as a great trend or a fast track to pushing the species towards extinction?
