The "Beauty" of MTV's Skins

The MTV empire revolves around teen subculture. Once filled with sex, drugs, and rock and roll, the channel for music television was a way for teens to escape mundane suburbia and slip into a world of controversy with a definite cool factor . While the music aspect has been slowly slipping away for years, MTV has clung to its only saving grace: sex.

MTV’s shows today are packed with promiscuity (think Real World and Jersey Shore), but the network’s most controversial show of all is an adaptation of the uber-successful British television program, Skins. The American adaptation has the same controversial plot line as its UK counterpart, exploring dysfunctional families, sexual orientation, substance abuse, and death.

The show has been criticized for racy depictions of casual sex and questions have even been raised regarding a possible child pornography lawsuit. Aside from the legalities, there’s a moral issue at play here. Skins is shoving sex and beauty into the faces of our youth. True, the demographic is for a mature teen audience, but we can’t fool ourselves into thinking the younger generation isn’t watching.

Entertainment PR: NBC's The Voice

It's almost time! Time for what you may ask? The premiere of the much anticipated singing competition, The Voice. The show which features the advice from such talented artists as Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. It's looking to be quite an interesting show!

Creator John de Mol clearly wanted to set his voice competition apart from the many others that pop on television (or those who are American Idol'ed out) so he sought out talented artists and created a unique spin. The Voice will feature contestants who will stand on the stage and belt their best tunes out for the coaches.

Here's the twist: the coaches will have their backs to them while they sing giving them the opportunity to focus only on their voices instead of their personal appearance. This is a great way to challenge how we think someone should look in order to move up the rungs in the entertainment industry. It gives people the chance to have their voice heard (literally) without the worry of judgement because of their lackluster appearance.

Entertainment PR: Love Bites at NBC

Ladies, get your TiVo’s ready. Cindy Chupack, Emmy Award-winning producer of Sex and the City fame is bringing a new romantic comedy to the small screen. NBC's new show Love Bites is a dramedy featuring three stories of modern love, sex, and marriage. A little irreverent and a whole lotta lovin’, the hour-long series promises to be a show worth watching.

Love Bites follows Annie and Frannie, two single women battling through the rollercoaster journey that is dating, love, and sex. When all of their friends have gotten married, it leads the women down a Carrie-esque search for love. Overall, the show is shaping up to be a keen, poignant look at modern love.

The show has had a bumpy start so far. It was slated to air in the 2010/2011 fall season on Thursday nights, but a number of changes have affected the actual air date of the production. Cast members have been added and dropped, and the total number of episodes was cut from 13 to 9 episodes.

Pierce Mattie's Mint Julep Recipe: A Kentucky Derby Weekend

For those of you celebrating The Kentucky Derby this weekend one cuisine cocktail of the south comes most to mind; The Mint Julep. The spirit blend is often attributed to 19th-century American planter, statesman and orator; Henry Clay of Kentucky. If you don't fancy the taste of bourbon replace it with vodka creating a Kremlin Colonel. It will hit your tastebuds like a Stinger using crème de menthe. Happy Weekend!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1/2 cup roughly chopped fresh mint leaves
  • 32 fluid ounces Kentucky bourbon
  • 8 sprigs fresh mint leaves for garnish

Beauty & Fashion PR: Why We Love Glamour Magazine

Founded in 1939 in the United States, the Conde Naste publication Glamour, originally went by the name “Glamour of Hollywood.” Promising its readers the “Hollywood way to fashion, beauty and charm,” the magazine sold at only 15 cents an issue.

Originally centered on fashion and beauty, as women’s rights evolved so did the magazine. It was the first magazine to address its female readers from a viewpoint outside of the home, which drastically changed the magazine industry. Today, Glamour provides women with not only inspirational and accessible style ideas, but also articles on relationships, health and women’s issues. Glamour has gained extensive recognition over the years for its revolutionary steps in the magazine industry.

In addition to its steps in women’s rights, the publication was the first magazine to put an African American woman on its cover, as well as the first to extensively right about abortion rights. The American Society of Magazine Editors awarded Glamour the “National Magazine Award” in 1992 for the abortion coverage.

80's Pop Culture Icons, The Smurfs, Hitting Theaters This Summer

They're small, they're blue and there is only one female among them...yes, I am talking about 80's pop culture icons, The Smurfs. Whether or not you watched them regularly during Saturday morning cartoons growing up, it seems everyone has heard a joke, seen a costume, picture or watched re-runs on Netflix. These smurfy little blue creatures living among the forest filled with mushrooms will forever be apart of American history and are finally coming to the big screen. On July 29th the Smurfs will once again be in the spotlight, but this time in 3-D as a hybrid live-action and animated film that will leave everyone smurfified.

Jonathan Winters, who was heard on the original TV show version of The Smurfs, will be voicing the infamous Papa Smurf, famous celebrities you might recognize - Katy Perry as the one and only Smurffette, George Lopez and Fred Armisen from Saturday Night Live will also be voicing some of the better known smurfs. The movie, The Smurfs, is based closely on the Smurf TV show and comic books, but this time it takes place in NYC. Neil Patrick Harris portrays Patrick, the New Yorker where The Smurfs take up shelter to hide from Gargamel (played by Hank Azaria.)

With some other well-known voices behind The Smurfs (Jeff Foxworthy, Paul Reubens and Wolfgang Puck to name a few), it should come as no surprise that The Smurfs in 3-D will re-ignite our love for this pop culture phenomenon all over again. For complete details, visit www.Smurfhappens.com.

Entertainment PR: Cameron Diaz's Sex Appeal Will Sell Bad Teacher

Bad Teacher, a new comedy starring Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake and Jason Segal is generating a lot of buzz before its release. In the movie, Cameron Diaz’s character Elizabeth (who does not have any work ethic, drinks and gets high all the time), expects to get by in life by living off her fiancé’s money once they are married. However, after she is dumped, she tries everyway she can to seduce Justin Timberlake (to be fair it has worked before in the real world!) Her outrageous plots to get JT involve everyone around her and are hilarious.

Diaz has always been known for having the best arms in Hollywood, but in this movie you can see that she also has one of the hottest bodies, too. Not only is Bad Teacher receiving a lot of publicity due to ex's Diaz and Timberlake's chemistry (sex scene anyone?), but Diaz is hotter than ever playing up her sensuality to cash in on a summer blockbuster.

Entertainment PR: The Lying Game Comes to ABC Family

The Lying Game is ABC Family’s upcoming TV show which has everything our generation loves! Mystery, drama, lies and much more. Gen X and Gen Y have always had a fascination with twins. From Sweet Valley High to the Olsen sisters, someone to switch places with and borrow clothes from has always made us envious of identical twins (unless you are the Winklevoss brothers.)

The Lying Game starts with the same innocence as The Parent Trap where each twin does not know about the other’s existence, but decide to switch places after they find each other. Sutton, a rich elite, switches with Emma to find their real mother’s identity. However, the story’s tone changes completely when Sutton does not show up at their designated meeting place. Should Emma reveal her identity and risk losing everything she just got to find out what happened to her mother and sister?

The Lying Game is based on a novel written by Sara Shepard, who is also the author of Pretty Little Liars. Pretty Little Liars is currently one of the most watched ABC Family shows, which follows the lives of four teens after the death of their best friend.

As for the stars themselves, each have their own desires and expectations for the future. However, one thing that rang consistent in all of their interviews was their feelings about the end. Entertainment PR: Mysteries of Lisbon

Mysteries of Lisbon is the story of an orphan boy who sets out to find who his parents are, but as every new life and story unravels, his uncertainty of the whole situation only grows.

The film takes place in Portugal in the 19th century, where there were only two classes at this time: filthy rich or dirt poor. The film does a fantastic job at showing the two extremes of the lifestyles. On one hand there is the life of grand ballrooms and only the best décor where the dresses and costumes are absolutely thrilling to watch and wait for as filmmaker Raul Ruiz makes sure you are locked in this time of wealth and poverty.

The main characters go through a shift in identity and class, and the alteration in dress is wonderful to watch as some of the poorest characters slowly become noble. The dresses worn by the women are stunning with such detail put into their design. Mysteries of Lisbon is a film you truly won’t be able to take your eyes away from once it begins.

Gen Y's Anthem: Friends With Benefits and No Strings Attached

Our generation has been moving away from the traditional lifestyle of getting married right after you find a suitable partner. It was quite simple earlier when a girl had a boyfriend who then became her husband. But today, there are so many different relationships that you can have. Some relationship phrases that are important to our generation include: A monogamous relationship, an open relationship, hooking up, friends with benefits, married, separated, and divorced. The current generation values independence as being very important and therefore more people are in open relationships, are hooking up, and are friends with benefits than ever before.

Hollywood has obviously taken notice of this new lifestyle shift and has produced two new movies based around these themes, Friends with Benefits and No Strings Attached. In both movies, women are career driven and independent, a reflection of Gen Y's trend. I preferred Friends with Benefits to No Strings Attached because of the cast chosen for the former. Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake were perfect choices for their roles in the movie because both have a very playful quality about them. Moreover, neither one has had a main role in a movie before this one. So, their chemistry on screen was a delightful surprise for the audience.

Entertainment PR: The Kardashian Brand

Possibly one of the fastest rising families to celebrity status for reasons still unclear to many, you can’t ignore that the Kardashian’s have become a sensation. So how did this all begin and where is it going? The quartet of Kardashian’s, consisting of Kim, sisters Kourtney and Khloe and mother Kris, command a branding empire that was worth over $65 million last year alone, according to LA Times. Kim leverages about $12 million alone.

While they might be known for their light-hearted and outrageous antics, these girls are strictly business when it comes to their brand. Constantly searching for potential deals, they are involved in fashion, fragrances and beauty. Their newest partnership with Sears, ‘Kardashian Klothing,’ entails small pop-up boutiques in all 400 of their locations.

The Dark Knight Rises in July 2012

The Dark Knight Rises is yet another one of Christopher Nolan’s much awaited Batman movies. It will be the third and last one of Nolan’s Batman series and so there is a lot of pressure on him to come up with something fabulous (and we’re not expecting anything less from him!) People love Batman movies and always have. The first Batman serial was released in 1943, and now, almost 70 years later, we’re still anticipating a new Batman movie.

The movie will star Christian Bale as Batman, Michael Caine as his trusted butler, Gary Oldman as Gotham City’s Police Commissioner and Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox. Robin will not be in this film because Bruce Payne aka Batman is supposed to be much younger and has not yet met him. Since Joker was the villain in the last movie, everyone has been asking if Heath Ledger will be replaced. And the answer is out - he will not be replaced by anyone! We truly think he is irreplaceable – The Joker will always be synonymous with Heath Ledger.

But what are Batman movies without some bad guys? We obviously need Batman to save Gotham City from someone. This movie will feature Anne Hathaway as Catwoman and Tom Hardy as Bane. The movie will also feature Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a Gotham City beat cop.

Celebrity PR: Ashton Kutcher vs. Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men

News about Charlie Sheen being dropped from CBS’s Two and a Half Men was no surprise, but being replaced by Ashton Kutcher certainly was! Although a lot of people love Charlie Sheen’s character in Two and a Half Men, I was frankly getting quite bored of the same old plot line. Charlie gets drunk. Charlie meets girl. Charlie says goodbye to girl. Even if he had not verbally attacked Chuck Lorre publicly or had substance abuse problems, I think the show needed a new face. But the question is, is Ashton Kutcher a good replacement for Charlie Sheen or is this going to be a big fail?

I think Ashton Kutcher is a perfect choice for Two and a Half Men. Bored of the monotone the show had taken on prior to Sheen's departure, I am excited to see what Kutcher will bring to the table. While Sheen has recently only been himself (or Charlie Harper) on TV recently, Ashton Kutcher has played many different roles. He has played roles in romantic, comedy and action films and has shown that he can be versatile. Moreover, Ashton Kutcher already has a huge fan base, both because of his movies and because of his social networking skills. Seriously, who can hate this guy?

New York City PR: Sex and the City 3

Sex and the City has always been one of my favorite TV shows and I even loved the first movie, but the second one did not really impress me (and not many other people either!) After Sex and the City 2 received harsh reviews last year, no one was certain that there would be another one. Now, however, people are talking about a third movie which is rumored to be a prequel to the others. This movie will show the girls in the city in their late teens or early twenties. It will show how they came to New York and how their friendship started. The movie will be based on Candace Bushnell’s The Carrie Diaries and Summer and the City.

Everyone is all abuzz about just who will be playing the roles of the young foursome. There have been rumors that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s younger sister, Elizabeth Olsen, will be playing Carrie Bradshaw, a Midwestern girl who travels to New York to fulfill her dream of being a writer. Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively is supposed to play Samantha, who meets Carrie when she arrives in New York and shows her how things are done in the city. Disney star Selena Gomez will play Charlotte and Emma Roberts will play Miranda’s role. What do you think about these character choices? Do you think these girls are believable as young Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda?

Katy Perry and Adele are Music's Leading Ladies at The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards With Three Moonmen a Piece With Perry's "Fireworks" Taking Home "Video Of The Year"

The ladies ruled the kingdom at the "2011 MTV Video Music Awards," broadcast live this evening from Nokia Theater L.A. Katy Perry won the biggest prize of the night, "Video of the Year," with her pop anthem, "Fireworks," as well as honors for "Best Collaboration" and "Best Special Effects" for "E.T." featuring Kanye West. Adding to her reign atop the album charts, Adele won VMAs for "Best Art Direction," "Best Cinematography," and "Best Editing." Genre and gender-defying Lady Gaga kicked off the night as her alter ego Joe Calderone with a show-stopping performance of "You and I," and later walked away with two VMAs for "Best Female" and this year's new category, "Best Video with a Message."

The most explosive moment of the night belonged to hip-hop heavyweights Kanye West and Jay-Z. The duo brought funk, flare and the fireworks to the VMA stage with the worldwide television debut performance of "Otis" from their global number one album, Watch The Throne. The kings of hip-hop playfully commandeered the VMA stage with their usual royal swagger through a steady bombastic beat of flames, smoke and pyrotechnics until the patriotic climax as they proudly stood in front of the red, white and blue of a gigantic American flag in a nod to the single's cover.

Entertainment PR: The Help's Jessica Chastain. Is she Hollywood's New It Girl?

Jessica Chastain recently hit the big screen in the emotionally moving film, The Help.  She took on the role of Celia Foote, a light-hearted, vulnerable woman who was recently pushed out of her socialite group due to her unfortunate husband choice: her friend’s ex-boyfriend, Johnny Foote, played by Mike Vogel. Chastain stated that she enjoyed playing this role because it was much different than who she is day-to-day. Foote is portrayed as being a stylish gal in the film, wearing skirts, heels, and flawless hair and makeup. Chastain said she was not used to living this lifestyle - She reported to NOW Magazine, “All the men, all the crew would look at me. I’m not used to being looked at, I’m not a bombshell - and at the end of the day I’d take my wig off, take the makeup off, put on my cutoffs, put on my T-shirt and walk out of the trailer. The look of disappointment on every man’s face when they realized I wasn’t Celia Foote was quite sobering.” Even though she doesn’t think she is a bombshell, we sure do! She is said to be the next IT girl. Although she believes she doesn’t have a high sense of fashion, I disagree - Chastain was seen wearing a ruby red, vintage Yves Saint Laurent dress at the Toronto Film Festival. What do you think of Jessica’s style?

Chastain struck up her love for acting while studying for four years at Julliard, in New York City. During her education she mainly focused her attention on Shakespeare. Shortly after her schooling she appeared in different episodes of popular TV shows like, ER, Veronica Mars, Law & Order: Trial by Jury, Close to Home, and Journeyman.

Jessica not only astounded us with her role in The Help, but also succeeded with her role in another big picture, The Debt, a 2010 espionage thriller.

You can also spot Chastain in the upcoming, 2012 film, The Wettest County in the World, starring alongside Shia LaBeouf, and Tom Hardy.

If you haven’t had the pleasure of seeing Jessica Chastain in The Help, it is highly recommended! Truly a timeless, soon-to-be classic! There is buzz about Oscar nominations for Best Picture! Let us know what you think of Chastain’s success! Tweet us @PierceMattiePR

Entertainment PR: 50/50 with Seth Rogan and Joseph Gordon-Levitt

The dramedy film 50/50, directed by Jonathan Levine, came into theatres this past Friday. There has been a lot of hype regarding this motion picture largely due to its attracting stars, Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Seth Rogen also played a part in the film’s production, along with well-known producer, Evan Goldberg.

50/50 was written by Will Reiser, who loosely based the screenplay on his personal life experiences and struggles. The protagonist, Adam, played by the talented Joseph Gordon-Levitt, unexpectedly gets diagnosed with life-threatening cancer. The film shows how he breaks the news to his family and friends and how he deals with the news and attempts an outlook of optimism. When Adam is sent to chemotherapy, his assigned, inexperienced therapist, played by Anna Kendrick, befriends him as well as two other comedic patients.

The film is an original story about life, love, friendships that occur along the way, and using humor as a remedy. However we shouldn’t misinterpret the film’s objective - as film critic, Lou Gaul Calkins assures, Certainly cancer is no laughing matter, and the talents behind 50/50 clearly recognize that. But they also understand that humor sometimes possesses the power to soften pain and lift the heart of someone suffering from a life-threatening illness. That’s the case in the warm, funny and well-intentioned 50/50.”

The film has been rated 8.1 stars by IMDB, and I believe will only climb higher. 50/50 teaches its viewers how important friendships are, and how important humor is in life and within relationships - We also see in 50/50, how humor can help aid us in dealing with the battles and unexpected struggles thrown our way.

Definitely go on a cinematic journey this week and get enthralled by 50/50 - to look up show times near you just enter your zip code at movietickets.com and purchase your tickets! If you want to read and view more on the film, check out the 50/50 website for trailers, clips, and more!

Entertainment PR: My Week With Marilyn

After recently reading J. Randy Taraborrelli’s book, The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe, my admiration grew for Marilyn. She truly was and still is, an icon. Director, Simon Curtis, clearly felt similar when he decided to create a film based on Monroe’s story - My Week With Marilyn

Michelle Williams is playing the esteemed role of Monroe and definitely succeeded in looking the part! William’s is joined by a wonderfully talented cast, consisting of Emma Watson, Judi Dench, and Dominic Cooper. The motion picture depicts Monroe when she is filming one of her famous movies, The Prince and the Showgirl. As she gets closer with one of the assistants on set, Colin Clark played by Eddie Redmayne, the story begins to unfold. The story-line essentially follows the true path that Clark led when working with Monroe and their story together.

Williams prepared well for this role through getting help on perfecting Monroe’s strut, reading books and letters about and from Marilyn Monroe herself and watching all of her films. I think Williams was a great casting decision and will prove to be a huge success. Make sure to watch the trailer if you have yet to do so -- this film is going to be fascinating!

My Week With Marilyn will be in theatres November 4. Will you be waiting in line to see just how brilliant Michelle William’s will be? Let us know what you think by tweeting us @PierceMattiePR!

Entertainment PR: Ellen Page Hits the Big Screen in 2012 with Nero Fiddled and The East

Fans of Ellen Page will be happy to hear that she is going to be hitting the big screen again in 2012! After Page got one of her biggest breaks in the film Juno, she has continued to excel in her numerous character roles - As we saw in last year’s perplexing film, Inception with Leonardo DiCaprio. Ellen Page was nominated for Best Science Fiction Actress for Inception at the Scream Awards - I think her nomination was whole-heartedly deserved as her Inception role was played flawlessly.

Ellen Page is currently in production of two films scheduled for release in 2012. Her first film for the year is a comedy entitled Nero Fiddled and directed by Woody Allen. It is set in Rome and stars other major actors as well such as, Woody Allen (acting, producing and directing), Alec Baldwin, and Penelope Cruz. Judging by the cast alone - it has to be a good flick! The film depicts four different sets of family and friends that are visiting Rome for various reasons. I’m sure when they all start colliding we are in for a comedic treat.

Page’s other suspected 2012 film is called The East and is currently in the post-production phase!

I think Ellen Page is an extremely talented actress and succeeds spectacularly at the roles she takes on--especially at the brilliant age of 24! Will you be hitting the theater in 2012? Tweet us @PierceMattiePR!

Celebrity PR: Top 3 Breakout Celebrities of 2011

From comedy to drama, there was no chauvinism in movie genre as to what constituted the top 3 breakout celebrities of 2011.  Although some more than others, hold a few notches under their belt when it comes to crafting a remarkable film, with a memorable performance, it seems to be of no shock which artists made the upper echelon of this year’s breakout celebs.

1. Ryan Gosling. (This is a no-brainer.) It seems strange that we would label the star of history’s favorite tearjerker, ‘The Notebook,’ a breakout celebrity of 2011.  Yet with Gosling’s riveting performances in each of his films:‘Crazy Stupid Love,’ ‘Drive,’ and ‘The Ides of March,’ this 31-year-old talent has more planned projects intended to shock our audiences.   Upcoming projects: 'The Place Beyond the Pines,''Gangster Squad,' 'Only God Forgives,' 'Logan's Run' and an untitled project, produced and directed by screenwriter Terrence Malick.

2. Emma Stone. This firecracker’s choice to convert a redhead wasn’t a dire decision. After landing her role as no angel in 2007’s film ‘Superbad,’ Stone coined herself as a comedic icon to America. However, it was her serious role in this year’s film ‘The Help,’ based on a best-selling novel that landed her a spot in the top 3 of breakout celebrities.  From comical redhead to curly-haired blonde, this starlet has more in store for us as well.  Upcoming projects:‘The Amazing Spider-Man,’ Gangster Squad,’ and ‘The Croods.’

3. Octavia Spencer. When it comes to breakout celebrities of 2011, age plays no part in qualification. Olivia Spencer, 41, stars as Minny Jackson, a maid in ‘The Help.’  Her memorable performance has audience members and critics talking of her potential to receive an Oscar for her work, as a fresh face on the big screen.  What’s next for Spencer? Only time will tell for this new actress.  I am certain that directors and producers will be fighting over this vivacious personality!

With each of these celebrities adjacent one another from film to film, with Ryan Gosling co-staring with Emma Stone in ‘Crazy Stupid love,’ to Emma Stone co-staring with Octavia Spencer in ‘The Help,’ it is no marvel that the artists’ triumphant vibes seem to radiate off one another. What type of role would you like to see these celebs play in 2012?

Entertainment PR: Will VH1's Baseball Wives Be a Hit?

Real Housewives, Mob Wives and now Baseball Wives. Are these "wives" reality series getting plain old or are we all secretly addicted to watching the rich have dysfunctional lives just like the rest of us (just on a grander, greedier scale?)

VH1's newest reality series launched at the tail end of 2011 and has been getting mixed reviews.  The wives and ex-wives of former, professional baseball players have all come to town, Scottsdale Arizona, home of baseball's spring training.  With such glamorous, carefree lifestyles, contradicted with heaps of heated drama, these wives are mirroring all of the other wives' series that have come before them.

This sassy six, envied by all (even their supposed closest circle of friends), come together to form a dynamic team of their own for the first season of Baseball Wives.

Cynical and foul-mouthed, Anna-Benson, wife of retired pitcher Kris Benson is also a mother of four.  The former FHM model’s brutal opinions and honest persona undeniably bring a zest to the show!

Erika Monroe Williams, prim and proper news anchor, and wife of former All-Star 3B Matt Williams, Erika has been deemed as the ‘stepford wife’ of the show. Stepmother of three, and one of her own, Williams still seems to keep it sane for the sitcom.

Life experienced, Chantel Kendall, recent ex-wife of Kansas City catcher, Jason Kendall, has seen it all, and is no shielded stepford wife when it comes to this home plate.  Her struggle with drugs and poverty and previous life have only led her to become the kind-hearted devoted mother she is today.

Tanya Grace, ex-wife of retired 1B Mark Grace, brings the flirtatiousness to show, along with her party-girl guise.  Fun-spirited and light-hearted Tanya is a lover of golf, and a lover of love, in search a male partner to share the swing with.

Supermodel and bronzed beauty Brooke Villone, wife of relief pitcher Ron Villone keeps grounded despite her self-made success.  Don’t worry viewers, Brooke likes to have a good time like we all do and lets loose this season for some wild entertainment.

Jordana Lenz, ex-girlfriend of Milwaukee outfielder Nyjer Morgan, concludes this sassy six-pack of ‘wives.’  Although teased for being ‘just a girlfriend’ in the show, Jordana reminds us that each of these wives were once ‘just girlfriends as well.’  It’s a tough crowd, not only for the men in the baseball world, but for the women standing by their side.

Will this series hit a homerun with viewers or will they strike out? Tweet us @PierceMattiePR with your thoughts.

Entertainment PR: The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins are those kind of books that you do not want to put down. You find yourself halfway through the book and you have completely lost all track of time. You are completely mesmerized by the story and as you keep reading you begin to build the arena, District 12, and the training center in your mind and create all of the characters with their flaws and personalities in your mind. This is exactly what happened to me when I read all three Hunger Games book in a week and a half. School came second, I barely watched television, and I lived and breathed Hunger Games.

When I heard they were making a movie I lost my breath. I couldn’t decide whether I was excited or nervous – I guess I was a little bit of both. I have to see the movie of course – that is not even an option – but I am also anxious to see the movie because after all, the world I have created in my own mind will be lost and replaced by the Hollywood version.

So far the released trailers look really well done and I have high hopes that it will be an accurate portrayal of the first book. I built District 12 in my mind to look like a concentration camp in a totalitarian society, which the trailers seem to portray. Also, I am very pleased with how the movies make the arena look as it is very close to the image I had created in my mind.

I am more than pleased with the Liam Hemsworth playing Gale; he definitely looks the part and is ruggedly handsome. The character choice for Katniss on the other hand is not my favorite. I appreciate Jennifer Lawrence as an actress, but Katniss is supposed to have kind of a boyish figure, be on the scrawny side, and not be girly. Jennifer Lawrence oozes sexuality, is very pretty, and has a few more curves than I had pictured Katniss with.

Regardless, I am beyond excited to see the movie and counting down the days until March 23, 2012. In my opinion, the books are always better than the movies and as long as I keep my Hunger Games world alive in my own imagination the movies will be fun to watch. Will you be watching too? ABC's Scandal Brings Crisis PR to Television

April is not the conventional time you would expect a hit television show to premiere; however, if you have been scoping your TV Guide or perusing on Twitter over the past couple of weeks, you may have noticed Scandal. Scandal is ABC’s new television series that follows Olivia Pope, a high profile crisis manager in Washington DC. The series premiered on April 5, 2012 with an enticing pilot episode leaving viewers wanting more. These intrigued viewers can catch Scandal on Thursday evenings at 10pm on ABC. Admittedly, I was one of these instantly addicted viewers, but fortunately, rather than waiting a full week, ABC offered the second episode on ABC.com before its airdate.

Kerry Washington stars as Olivia Pope, the famed Washington D.C. crisis manager of international celebrities. Scandal’s co-stars include Colombus Short, Henry Ian Cusick and Darby Stanchfield, who act as her main team in curbing crises that arise.  The television series was directed by Shonda Rimes, who is most well known for her work with Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice.  Rhimes frequently mentions that Scandal is the product of inspiration from real world D.C. crisis manager, Judy Smith, who famously worked on the Monica Lewinski case for Bill Clinton. Although loosely interpreted, the show has gotten raving reviews about the accuracy of the crisis industry.

In the first episode alone, accusations against the President were filed on alleged extra-marital affairs. As you watch Scandal you are instantly hooked on the drama and fast-paced, yet glamorous life of Olivia Pope and her loyal team. With the outrageous relationships already becoming apparent, it is definitely the perfect show to add to your weekly television agenda.

Personally I am enticed by the brisk pace of the show and the cast reinforces their repetitive line, that the team is not a group lawyers, but “gladiators in suits”. While the show has only debuted a few episodes, it remains to have reviews to be an everlasting show that will not neglect to lose a loyal audience. I wonder if the Secret Service debacle recently in the news will make it onto the show this season...loosely interpreted of course.
