Nothing says summer like glowing, bronzed skin and as we all know tanning beds and baking for hours in the sun is the sure ticket for cancer. Self tanners are becoming more and more popular as people become more aware of the dangers of UV Rays, but the problem with the wrong self tanner or application leads to those weird looks as people spot you in the park with orange streaks all over your legs (we've all been there, you're not alone!) So which are the best self tanners to use?
I have tried a handful of self tanners and my personal favorite would have to be TanTowel. I am in love with them! The medium to dark ones give you an even and believable tan. The best is there is no streaks, you don't look like a Sunkist orange and its super easy to use. TanTowel comes in single little packages so they don't dry out and the tan lasts for several days. They also have fair-medium towels, so you can choose the desired level of tan that you want to be. They also have kits you can purchase that include everything you need from lotion to bronzer.
With any self tanner avoiding streaks and dark patches is key, so here are a few tips on how to prep and apply self tanner:
1) First and foremost is to exfoliate your skin the day before application. This is so important because your skin needs to be shed of the dead skin cells for better absorption of the self tanner.
2) Moisturizing everyday is also an essential step to get (and maintaining) your tan.
3) When you are actually ready to apply the self tanner make sure to do it in an area where you can reach all areas of your body. One place to avoid application is a steamy bathroom after your shower since the heat and moisture can cause you to sweat. Make sure you are completely dry after your shower and wait at least fifteen minutes to avoid any streaking. Also when applying, make sure to take your time and apply it slow. The last thing you want is to miss a spot, even having someone who can help will make it all the better.
4) If those dry areas (ankles, elbows, knees) may be a little dryer, try mixing half self tanner and half moisturizer for a more natural look, since those are the places to first show if you do not apply correctly.
5) Make sure to wash your hands multiple times throughout the application and after. Using latex gloves are even smarter to use during your application to make sure everything is being spread evenly on your body.
6) Wait at least fifteen to twenty minutes to get dressed after application to make sure it is dry and will not stain your clothes. Grab a magazine or call a friend for the wait to go faster.
What has your experience been with self tanners?

I haven't used TanTowel yet, but it definitely sounds like something I should be trying!

I have always been one of those people to lay out in the sun, but this year I'm going to try sunless tanner instead, I'm really afraid of what my skin might look like a few years down the road & I want to be as healthy as possible! I am definitely going to try this tanner, thanks for the tips!
