As creatures of the new millenium, we are constantly in motion. For this reason, you may not be getting the sleep you need, and we all know what that means in the morning: dark circles and puffy eyes.
Your dark circles may not be something you can control. You could have allergies, or anemia, or you could be eating too much salt. Some women--or men--have a natural predisposition to dark circles, and there's nothing they can do about it. Also, aging makes skin thinner, which can make them more prominent. If dark circles have suddenly started to appear, there are measures you can take to reduce their appearance. So, what are the best dark circle remedies?
Traditional methods: Use cucumber slices and tea bags. Your mother told you right. Cucumber lightens and soothes the eyes and the caffeine in tea is what reduces water retention, so eyes aren't as puffy. Leave the slices on for about 5-10 minutes at a time. Tea bags should be left on for about 10 minutes, but make sure to use cool water! Hot water is a desiccant and will dry out your eyes.
Avoid the sun: Sunlight can exacerbate the problem because it boosts melanin levels (you know, the stuff that makes your skin dark). This makes dark circles look even darker. So, if you're in the sun often, be sure to wear sunscreen and sunglasses.
Eye masks with magnets: So, you've heard that magnets attract iron and that your blood is full of it right? Right. This HoMedics Eye Mask, which can be hot or cold, has magnets inside that attract blood to the surface of your skin. The increased blood flow renourishes and revitalizes that particular part of your body, diminishing dark circles and wrinkles in the eye area.
Calm your Allergies: If you have them, you probably have dark circles, too. It's caused by the increase in histamines. So, the best thing to do is take prescription allergy medicine, which will prevent symptoms, or at least an antihistamine like Benadryl.
Eye Care Products: Like I said before, remember the basics. Try and find a cream with cucumber extract and caffeine. Try this eye cream from Bare Escentuals. It's a natural formula with cucumber in it, and it's meant to lighten eyes plus reduce appearance of fine lines.
Use Makeup: If all else fails, get a good concealer. If your dark circles are extreme, try something thick that comes in a pot because it will have better coverage. If not, try a wand or brush-on concealer like YSL's Radiant Touch. They tend to be a little thinner and you won't look too wide-eyed. A side note about concealers: find one that has the same undertones as your skin. Otherwise, it won't blend in and you'll look chalky.
