To set yourself apart from other men at the office this Spring, Details Magazine profiled the updated brush cut, reintroduced by Eugene Souleiman for Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring/Summer 2009 runway show. Instead of taking a tip from Hollywood hair heavyweights such as Patrick Dempsey, George Clooney, and for the younger generation, Zac Efron, take a pointer from a new twist on an old hair style classic.
This updated version is said to be the cut of the moment, not dated like its fifties counterpart,
popular in barbershops across the country. Similar in execution to the classic crew cut, this look is more updated and sleek. Instead of slicking the top back, pull it up, away from the face, while keeping the sides and back sheared. Keep the sides and back sheared to about one quarter of an inch, following the natural contours of your head, without an hair covering the ears, and the top to about one inch, keeping the bangs long enough to be pushed upward, out of the face.
The application of creams and pomades should be kept quick and simple: apply the product from the back to front evenly throughout and push the bangs up and back, while keeping the sides and back of the head smooth. Anthony Logistics for Men’s Hair Gel will hold strong but isn’t messy or fussy. The gel gives a strong hold and conditions hair with seaweed extract, aloe vera, vitamin B5 and whole wheat protein, while still giving off a masculine fragrance and simple execution for the man on the go. For a medium to strong hold, try Jack Black’s High Definition Hair Pomade, which provides a great effect without heavy build-up or drying out your hair.
The look is classic, with a modern twist, and, as evidenced by the ever-fashionable, trend-setting pair of Dolce & Gabbana, incredibly “cutting-edge.” Trim your hair every six to eight weeks to keep the cut fresh, clean and well groomed. Pair this look with a smart suit and clean shave, and undoubtedly you’ll be the best-dressed man in the office.
