New York Fashion Week has ended, leaving us with a multitude of new trends to piece together. This fashion week, some trends, like dramatic, gothic lips, seemed to reflect the times. Maybe it was due to economic issues in the fashion industry, prohibiting some designers from hosting runway shows. Designers like Doo.Ri and Betsey Johnson sent their models down the runway (or took their pictures in a showroom) in graphite and blackberry-colored lips. I know it was fall fashion week, but depressed anyone?
These colors capture the drama of the runway where anything goes, but can lips this dark really be called ready-to-wear? Few would dare. So, how can you wear dark lipstick in the real world?
Dark lips can make you feel super confident. But, no matter how much you like Twilight, you don’t want to look like a vampire. Here are a few tips to replicate this look in a way that won’t have the townspeople after you with pitchforks:

First, and most importantly, find a color that’s right for you. Although many women are afraid to try this trend, it’s difficult to mess up if you find a shade that works. You should look for a color with hues that match your natural lip tone. Dark complexions should look for plums or deep browns like Maybelline's Mineral Lip Color in Raisin. Fair skin tones should go for raspberry or pinkish hues like Lancome's Color Design Lip Color in Edgy. Olive complexions should try brownish reds or burgundy like M.A.C. Cosmetics' Satin Lipstick in Underworld. Ask for find a matte color with a lot of pigment. It will last longer and lips will look more plump.
Next, avoid using lip liner that is darker than the lipstick. Third, be sure to keep eye makeup subtle. You don’t want to play up more than one of your features or you’ll end up looking like a character. So, forgo shadow with this look. Light eyeliner and mascara is just right. Finally, please do a teeth check before leaving the house. Few things are more embarrassing than having lipstick on your teeth when you’re trying to impress someone.

I use a lip plumper and then apply lipstick-I don't think the darker colors would look good on me but I'm willing to try!
