Twilight Movie Makeup: Edward Cullen & Bella Swan

This past weekend I went to see the movie Twilight; I had heard both good and bad reviews of the movie, but was most interested in the hype (and hysteria) surrounding Rob Pattinson as Edward Cullen. My generation is of the Tom Cruise/Brad Pitt Interview with a Vampire type, so I was hoping to be swooned by the actor who is said to never wash his hair (certainly gross, but also sexy?) While Pattinson definitely captured my attention, I was more captivated by the makeup in the movie. Or rather, how completely transforming the characters were on set/off set.

When Edward first comes on screen, it's a little unnerving with his goth-white face and fiercely black eyebrows. The first product that came to mind was that the makeup artists on set must've used Anastasia's Brown Pen, a completely fantastic product that I use myself, but really made such a striking contrast on Edward's face, but seemed to lessen in other scenes in the movie. Understandably his face had to be pale, but at times Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart, seemed to be paler than he. Both had that chapped-yet-just bitten berry colored lip that brought Benefit Cosmetics benetint to mind.Bella's makeup was more retro-teen and reminded me of a time when you saw more natural looking makeup on teenagers than the sometimes overdone makeup application we see now.

What was even more interesting is how offset Robert Pattinson looks so opposite his well put-together character with the carefully coiffed hair. He was on Jay Leno Thanksgiving Eve and even Heidi Klum seemed a bit put off by his poor personal hygiene. Any pictures found of him across the internet show a very disheleved appearance with awfully greasy hair that makes me cringe each time he tries to run his fingers through it. Meanwhile Kristen Stewart is amazingly gorgeous compared to her plain Jane Bella Swan. She is a true natural beauty who really happened to nail that "teen angst" feeling in the movie...maybe a little too well.

Have you seen Twilight? What did you think of the makeup in the movie?

amber :

I thought that he looks better in the first scene as well he looks way better on screen than off

Tawnya:

I was dissapointed when I went to see the movie, the book describes this family (Cullens) as high fashion top designer drop dead gorgeous, all the actors were beautiful but I was upset to see Edward in non so designer clothes. He also wore the same thing a couple of times when it says in eclipse Alice won't let them wear the same thing twice.

The Makeup was great I agree on the paleness (if that's a word) on Bella sometimes. When I seen it I just shrugged it off. I hope the second and following movies have more of a budget and sticks to the story line. I remember the prom scene and the running shoe, it was a STILLETO!!! If they were going to do the scenes from the book they could have kept it close as possible!! But then again this is an opinion of a 21 year old Law student thats infatuated with Edward Cullen's character.

They picked a good one with Rob Pattinson and Kristen as well. I hope they keep these two through the making of the Twilight Saga. I look forward seeing what they have done with New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. Much thanks to Stephanie for bringing Edward to life with her vivid dreams and beautiful stories, I read them all the time although I've read all the books about 3 times already I keep reading them and seeing new things as I go on.
Please keep the upcoming movies as close to the movie as possible!!

Susie:

Wow..okay Tawnya seriously...you're complaining about Bella's prom shoe being different? The movie stayed pretty true to the book, especially in comparison to other book adaptations.

Anyways, loved the movie, love Kristen and Rob and the whole cast. I also loved the make up.
Although they dressed Kristen down for this role since Bella's supposed to be a "plain" kind of pretty, you could still see that Kristen Stewart is just gorgeous. She looked beautiful in the movie I thought.

I also loved what they did with the Cullen make up. They all looked SO WHITE, and I mean especially because some of the actors look nothing like their characters, people went through complete transformations because I think everybody looked the part in the movie. I think they did an extremely good job with Rob's make up and overall look...he embodied Edward! And the same goes for Peter Facinelli (Carlisle). When he walks on screen for the first time, you just get this WOAH factor, he's absolutely gorgeous!

susan negron:

i totally agree with tawnya!
They really should have stuck to the thinqs that happened in the book! I was very disapointed in that but i really dont care i love twiliqht and i think that edward cullen is insanely beautiful and bella doesn't stay behind the characters in this movie are perfect and i hope that they don't chanqe. i'm so lookinq foward to the next movie and btw i was so surprised to find out that Rob had also played Cedric in one of the harry potter movies, which i think was brilliant by the way!

connor :

omg i loooooooove the movie the best movie ever made!

ashley:

Hey what shoes did bella had when she went to the prom were they regular converse or Jack purcells?

JENNIE:

I LOVED THE MOVIE IT WAS THE BEST IVE WATCHED IT LOADS OF TIMES AND ILL BE WATCHIN IT 2 NITE I THINK EDWARD WAS GORGEOUS AND BELLA WAS SWEET I THINK THE NEXT ONES IS GUNNA BE JUST AS GOOD

Novita:

i thought Bella broke her leg when she go to the prom right????but why she walk really proper just like there's nothing happend to her leg????
i just complain those things..the rest of it,i really addicted with Twilight series. but the novel still better than the movie..

CT:

I also noticed how Edward's make up changed as the movie went on... I was glad that the eyeliner lessened but his lips stayed that beautiful cherry red.
I thought Carlisle's make up (the first time you see him) was incredibly disappointing. It looked as though they'd just slapped a big white powder puff in his face, put some in his hair and told him to go on set. And in my opinion, the same can be said for Jasper. AWESOME MOVIE THOUGH AND NO MATTER HOW FILTHY HIS HAIR IS ROBERT PATTINSON IS ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!

wow
like im his biggest fan so stay away!

mickey:

i am the official twilight fan my room is coverd with posters i think robert pattinson is just way hot like really really hot and tawnya i think your crazy about the things you said because i think i doesn't matter if a shoe is different of if they wear the same thing twice (so what) the movie was a great success it was truly amazing like i LLLLOOOOVVVVEEEE IIIITTTT IT DOESN'T MATTER TO ME IF A SHOE IS DIFFERNT ALL THAT MATTERS IS THAT IT WAS A AMMMMMAAAAZZZIIIINNNNGGGG MOVIE AND ROBERT PATTINSON IS HOTTTTT

and susan negron not most books are the same as movies they allways have somthing different.

and reneesme you are soooooooooo cute

Shayland:

Dude I was mad when they decided to change Edwards and Bellas look. In Twilight the first they looked like normal people but now they actually look like movie stars!!!!!? Well what i mean is that in a movie they should look like real people instead of people that are there just to get paid and look their best that is what really got me in the first movie ...!???:) Now they need to go back and make them look like people that care about what they are doing instead of making a movie of people who dont care what they are doing as long as they get paid:)!!!!!!!????

Brittany Jessup:

The movie was great. I hope that the next movie would come out earlier but that's fine. I will be fine waiting! I hope the actors and actresses do good in the next movie.

~A FAN~

Tiarra:

Umm all i have to say is that edward cullen is Gorgous and i love him

sara:

Wow, by the way some of you type your comments, I'm surprised you could even read a book.

hey way is the new movie comeing out The new moon.

Chyna Monique:

I actually liked the makeup in Twilight. Both of their paleness was to be there. Because, in the books it's that she's as pale as a vampire but juts not as cold as one. So, I think their look was good. However, their clothes weren't. The Cullens are supposed to dress expensively. Even Edward who dressed expensively subtle. The Cullens' clothes didn't look all that. As for their looks outside of the movie screen, neither Rob or Kristen look good. He looks drunk half the time and disgustingly unkept and she looks like a druggie. While, I do like her style, her, herself it seems is never presentable.

Jessi:

So what if Rob doesn't wash his hair? at least it looks good! Kristen does not look like a druggie.quit bagging on the stars of twilight!! They all look perfect in the movie. Carlisle's entrance was awesome. makeup was also great cuz all the actors went thru mega transformations.I loved the movie!! Rob and Kristen stay in character during the movie so New Moon will be just as fabulous as twilight. They did a good job on the paleness. Kristen is so gorgeous and if she wants to act a little crazy sometimes then whatever. It's her life, don't be so judgemental! People can act weird if they want to.

Jennifer:

I love Sara's comment......she is absolutely right......the spelling and word usage is so bad in some of these comments, I am also surprised that these people could read the books.
By the way, I think that the Twilight series is brilliant. Thank you Stephanie Meyers. Your work will be recognized and praised a hundred years from now. You are a literary genius!

birdy:

what's hilarious is Jennifer loves Sarah's comments but her own post has got errors as well.

Stop bagging on other people. Get a life. In case you haven't noticed, not all Twilight fans speak English as their first language. Some of these posts were obviously written by a foreigner.

shayo0om !:

Lauren:

Hey! Just to let you know, the lipstick (Benefit Cosmetics) was the shade 'Ms. Behavin', I'm going to purchase it this weekend!

Alisha:

I love twilight i just finished breaking dawn edward and bella belong tougher. In breaking dawn my least favorite part is when bella calls rosilie and the book switchs to jacob but then my fav is when bella turns into a vampire in the cullens house. MY fav. vampire is carlisle.
