The National Foundation for Celiac Awareness, the leading organization in raising awareness for celiac disease and gluten intolerance, reports that 1 in 133 Americans has celiac disease. In those who suffer from this disease, gluten causes the immune system to damage the small intestine thereby impeding the absorption of essential food nutrients into the body.

At this time, the only remedy for celiac disease is to adhere to a 100% gluten-free diet. Many who live with the disease take the added precaution of maintaining a gluten-free home. Increased awareness and diagnosis has resulted in a significantly increased demand for gluten-free products, and the gluten-free marketplace is experiencing tremendous growth with global sales expected to reach more than $4.3 billion within the next five years. By 2014, the U.S. market is expected to grow by more than $500 million, comprising 53% of the global market.

Recognizing the importance of informing consumers about the gluten content in their products, Dr.Hauschka manufacturer WALA Heilmittel approached The German Celiac Society, an organization which advocates for those with gluten sensitivities, to have their products reviewed. After a thorough evaluation, The German Celiac Society confirmed that 124 of 130 Dr.Hauschka Skin Care products are gluten-free.*

The complete list of gluten-free Dr.Hauschka Skin Care products is available to U.S. consumers at: www.drhauschka.com/gluten.

Dr.Hauschka Skin Care, Inc. will highlight its gluten-free products on their homepage, www.drhauschka.com through the month of September in recognition of National Celiac Awareness Day on September 13th.

All Dr.Hauschka Skin Care products are available at www.drhauschka.com

*As defined by The German Celiac Society (DZG):

The producer guarantees that he observes the criteria for the stated products. There is no certain inspection. This applies for gluten-free as well as for lactose-free preparations.

  • For products that only contain gluten-free raw materials it is sufficient to inform DZG about the product name. This applies for most of the Dr.Hauschka products as olive oil, bees wax, essence of Calendula, rice starch etc. are always gluten-free.
  • Products with gluten-containing ingredients such as hydrolyzed wheat protein may not be listed - unless they are stated as "gluten-containing" to warn/inform the consumer.
  • For products that derive from a gluten-containing plant but do not contain gluten because of the manufacturing process it is obligatory to submit analyses to DZG.
  • The very structured and clean production, through which a contamination of other substances is excluded, is assured by the GMP certificate of WALA Heilmittel GmbH. The GMP certificate is only given after a thoroughly, external certification of the whole manufacturing process by the Regional Council (German surveillance authority for remedies and skin care preparations).
