Wellness Media: Will Diet Pills Ever Return to the U.S. Weight Loss Industry?

Have you noticed the surge in popularity over the years of diets and exercise trends? From South Beach to the Cookie Diet to even "lifestyle diets" dubbed The Caveman Lifestyle and Evolutionary Fitness, it seems that as diet pills took a nose dive in the U.S. since Fen-Phen, but it certainly has helped diet books, programs and foods keep a steady hold on weight loss!

While the OTC weight loss pill, Alli continues to remain popular, prescription diet pills continue to get a bad rap. Legitimately so, as sometimes the side effects don't hardly balance out the benefits of taking the diet pill in the first place. Recently Meridia was taken off the market for this very reason, and the FDA has rejected new diet pills submitted for approval (Acomplia, and most recently Qnexa, Vivus and Lorquess.)

So will the diet pill ever make a comeback in the U.S. weight loss market? Until the pharmaceuticals can create a safe AND effective weight loss pill, then I believe we will continue to see diet books, programs and weight loss systems continue to flourish. What do you think?
