New Moon & V-The TV Series; Our Love for The Un-Human

As mentioned in our What's Hot What's Not 2010 list, humans are out and vampires are in. It's no more evident than the excitement and buzz around New Moon (coming out in 11 days to be exact, but who's counting?) and the TV series V. So just why are ordinary humans on the outs and what does this say about the state of our society?

During times of stress it is pretty common for people to turn to escapism. It gives us a means to forget our daily woes and immerse ourselves into something along the lines of science fiction. Pair that with a love story and you have the ingredients for success. It just so happens that we've become fascinated with vampires since the True Blood series began on HBO (or maybe even since Interview with a Vampire?) There are so many more vampire themed movies on it's way to theaters such as Cirque du Freak (which looks pretty funny) and the vampire series on television such as The Vampire Diaries.

But why vampires? The undead are definitely having a moment. But forget about Dracula – today’s vampires are sexy brooding heartthrobs, not creepy caped counts. And I don't know about you, but I will take Taylor Lautner (also on our What's Hot list) over the Count any day.
