Heading into the Thanksgiving weekend I randomly heard about Black Friday sales, even stores who had decided to open even earlier than ever (some at midnight versus the 4am camp out.) It turns out that while Black Friday still attracted plenty of bargain hunters, it didn't do nearly as well as expected. This past weekend while I was out shopping, I couldn't get over how empty the stores were, which got me thinking, was everyone holding out for Cyber Monday?
As an internet person, I see so many benefits to Cyber Monday over Black Friday, other than the obvious like standing out in the cold hours before the store opens or getting into the store for that one major deal only to find that the store only stocked 30 of that one product. The disappointment, the rude and pushy people...are we feeling the Holiday spirit yet? This year consumers are getting savvy with their money from buying costume jewelry over fine jewelry and shopping discount retailers like TJMaxx for brand names at a much lower price point. Certainly sitting in the comfort of your own home (or office if your boss is not looking!) with the ability to shop around for the best prices with offers of free shipping dancing in your head may be enough to beat Black Friday sales.
Although Black Friday has been known to have a lot of deals, the lines are a bit too much to stand in. This year with so many deals being available prior to Black Friday, I didn't feel that the stores would offer anything additional and decided to avoid the aggravation and just buy online. There have been better deals and in most cases, I haven't even had to pay for shipping." said Kimmie Smith owner/designer of Kitten Couture.
Did you shop on Black Friday or did you hold out on your shopping for Cyber Monday?

I was one of many who went out at midnight on Thursday to get great deals. The shopping center I went to was completely packed. My guess would be that there were over 2,000 people shopping. I have to say for all the hype about the sale, I was fairly disappointed. The sales weren't as good as I hoped they be and I ended up waiting in line in what seemed like forever. The sale lasted from midnight to 3 am... I made it only to two stores.
I wish I had known about Cyber Monday. This is the first time I've heard about such a unique alternative to Black Friday. I'm curious to see how many people will shop online today compared to Friday. Cyber Monday just goes to show how technology savvy people have become. I love it and next Thanksgiving I definitely plan on shopping online for Cyber Monday.

I did not go out on Black Friday and from what I heard I did not miss much. My Dad is constantly comparing prices in stores to online sales and he told our family not to waste time and energy fighting the crowds.
I got some great deals on Christmas presents online after Black Friday. I feel like more stores should have been more creative with their pitches to the customers. Many people I know did not go out because they weren't convinced the prices were going to be any lower.
