With more people looking to subscribe to their favorite magazines digitally, we began to see a decline in print magazine subscriptions thus slagging advertising sales which always means difficult times for the publishing industry. Add to that stew a lot of economic uncertainty and consumers cutting back and finding more frugal ways to get their fashion and beauty news--and you will find print publications folding at lightening speed. And it seems that in the last few months, that list of folded publications just keeps getting longer and longer. DNR, a Conde Nast publication, can now be added to that list. DNR is a men's fashion magazine that has been around for well over 100 years.
DNR is just another victim of a recession economy that has bred consumers that live in the now with information on demand in the least expensive way possible. This will only lead to more downsizing in the publishing industry, journalists taking on expanded responsibilities as they watch their co-workers get laid off and monthly print publications growing smaller in number.
There really is no way for a monthly publication to compete with the digital world of immediate information, which surprisingly DNR is also shutting down the publication's online version of itself. So one has to wonder how many more publications will fold before print media will begin to think about finding a happy medium between print and digital to keep subscription rates up and their readers interested in both versions of editorial splendor.
