What does Halloween mean to the population over the age of 12? Trying not to eat all the candy you bought for trick-or-treaters for one. Maybe it’s trying to figure out what your children are going to be for Halloween: does your daughter really have to be the fairy princess that wears such a specific tiara? Or maybe you actually dress up yourself on the occasion and make it an excuse to party and have a good time. On any other Halloween I might say the last answer was the least evident—but this year, I think people will use a Halloween character as a way to escape the economic woes that are sweeping the nation right now.
Just think of how fun it might be to pretend to be someone who says, “What financial crisis?” You can dress up as a celebrity, a fantasy character or even a person that graced us with a glamorous existence in the past. Here are a few of the “take me away” costume ideas I found around the web.
American Apparel has the ideas, the merchandise, and the way to assemble the costume all ready for you. This stress reliever costume guide could come in handy if you haven't decided what you'd like to be yet. My favorite is the literal gold digger.
New York Magazine Vintage Finds: NY Mag features a slew of vintage outfitted authentic peronnas. Being a flapper (as pictured) would be entirely appropriate. The roaring 20s were a time opposite to ours (until 1929 of course).
Betty Boop courtesy of Fabsugar: Our blogger friends at Fabsugar wish you a "fabby halloween" and present you with the enticing idea of being Betty Boop. Betty was literally a beacon of positivity during the depression, so what better case to leave you with?
It will be interesting to hear if spending on adult costumes increased at all over previous years and if this has any correlation to a Country trying to escape reality if just for one night.
