New York City: Musings on the Big Apple

I recently moved from Brooklyn back into Manhattan. I must admit, I am actually enjoying the convenience of not having to commute and I love having everything I will ever need only a phone call away, 24 hours a day. A Starbucks on every corner, Jamba Juice for my morning smoothie, a fat-free ostrich burger for lunch and restaurants that deliver at the most random times. Manhattan is like an addiction.

I have to say I have a love, hate relationship with this city. The people annoy me, I sometimes feel claustrophobic and I hate riding on the subway. Although, I must admit I like looking at the Hudson from this side of the river. The city is the epicenter of fashion, beauty and trends. There is nothing like watching well put together women on your way to work and wondering if they view you in the same way. I swear, NY women must spend at least $800 per month grooming themselves between manicures, waxing, blow outs, facials, massages and gym sessions.

Don’t get me wrong, Brooklyn is great too. The cute little boutiques, family run cafes and people who actually greet you with a smile, as you walk past them. I am looking forward to watching the new Sex and The City movie, to see what they list as trendy and cool. When the season left off, Miranda had moved to Brooklyn and Carrie was returning back to the Upper East side after her little trip to Paris. I am intrigued to see how they view the New York we are all living in now!

I agree with you, Manhattan is the epicenter of everything awesome. I live on Roosevelt Island, and although I like the separation from the city, I do wish I lived in Manhattan. Perhaps next year.
