The Pierre Hotel, whose top two floors became known for it’s high society parties since it’s opening in 1930 and has been a signature feature on the 5th Avenue skyline, is up for sale for a cool $70 million dollars. That is the highest amount of money ever requested for a New York residence.
The rooftop apartment was once a restaurant with a ballroom and is now a penthouse triplex. The ballroom alone is 3,500 square feet with French doors that open up to glorious views of Central Park and 360 views of the New York City skyline. The triplex was initially purchased by Martin Zweig, author of "Winning on Wall Street," for $21.5 Million dollars, which broke records at the time of purchase in 1999.
The hotel’s 41st and 42nd floors have also seen the likes of William Vanderbilt, Walter Chrysler and Conde Nast back in the 1930’s when they led an exclusive supper club called “Club Pierrot.” With the building having such a history, although the interior of the penthouse being rarely seen, the rooftop apartments are seen as a work of art and not simply living space.
