Two years ago, by chance, I came across Elke von Freudenberg on a group that we both happened to be apart of. Without knowing too much about her, beyond her love for cosmetics, we began a friendship. One that I cherish deeply.

So when Elke told me she was asked to be the Makeup Artist for Harper's Bazaar China, I knew that when the November edition came out, I wanted to be the first to proudly boast about it to the world.

Today I had the chance to briefly interview Elke:

Where can readers find more information about your Harper's Bazaar photo shoot?

On my blog, The Beauty Newsletter.

Now that something you started 3 months ago has finally come out, how do you feel about it?

Excited, but then it's also another photo shoot. You always hope that this is the shoot that people will discover you by, and discover your work, but you never know. All you can do is make every shoot your best and see what happens from there.

How old were you when you first began in the industry?

I was 16 when I started doing makeup. I was always the one to do my friend's makeup for the prom and dances, and a stint at modeling school lead me to do everyone's makeup at the weekly photo shoots. From there on, I knew that's what I wanted to do.

What was your first makeup job?

My first job was at 16 doing makeup for headshots for an actress from All My Children. I remember being terrified, but also remember making $30 for the job. At the time, I thought that was a lot of money!

What shoots have you done that you are most proud of?

I'm most proud of the Secret Deodorant Advertising Campaign. The concept was that each girl was the goddess of her garden, and to make her look strong yet beautiful. I got so much response from young girls saying they loved how the "goddesses" in the shots looked and really looked up to it. It was also the first national campaign that I did, so it has a special place in my heart.

You recently began The Beauty Blog Network, can you explain to Pierce Mattie readers more about it?

The Beauty Blog Network is a Directory of feeds of the best beauty blogs on the internet. There's always a lot of focus on fashion and style, but I felt that the beauty blogs out there were being overlooked. So I wanted to create a place where beauty blogs could showcase their blogs and really bring attention to, promote and spotlight cosmetics, makeup and all things beauty. Our Directory is by invitation and referral only from our members, so our readers get the best from the most active beauty blogs, and there are also more plans in the works for our Network and to create a stronger community between our beauty blogs and their readers. Our Network blog also spotlights the best posts made each day to also let readers know who's out there.

Learn more about Elke through her bio and by looking at her incredible portfolio, otherwise you can find Elke at her blog The Beauty Newsletter and working The Beauty Blog Network.
