What’s lurking in your bathroom? Besides the fabulous products you have going on in your cabinets for your friends to snoop, do you really know what lurks around your bathroom?
Lipstick—check
Toothpaste—check
Bacteria—check
All sorts of bacteria lurk in our bathrooms, from moist wet areas to products gone bad in our medicine cabinets. So what can you do to minimize your risk from your bathroom making you sick?
Keep things dry. Don’t leave water laying around on the countertop or floor where bacteria can take up residence.
Sanitize your toothbrushes. You can do this by running them through a cycle in your dishwasher.
Wash your hands every time you use the bathroom. If you don’t, you are spreading germs to everything you touch.
Change up hand towels. Don’t leave them hanging there for too long. They’ll become a breeding ground for germs. I change my hand towels every two days and when we have visitors, I change them at the end of that day.
Disinfect. You should be doing this at least once a week, twice would be great.
Close the toilet lid before flushing. You can’t see it, but the spray from the toilet lands germs and bacteria everywhere in your bathroom. (I’m sure many women will be cheering as their toilet seats and lids are finally being put down.)
Check the shelf life on your products. Bath & Body products, cosmetics and skin care items all have a shelf life. Products gone bad can breed bacteria and cause infections. I wrote a post on A Girl's Gotta Spa! a short time back on shelf life.
