One of the behind the scenes “heavy hitters” at Pierce Mattie is Vice President Serge Gurin. He gave me some advice that has stuck in my head and I’ve seen it make a difference last week so I decided to share.
Manage the core function, not the paperwork: Every manager has core functions they are responsible for and huge amounts of paperwork that goes hand-in-hand with managing and servicing clients- don’t let paperwork distract you from your real responsibility.
Fix the problems, not the blame: Everyone can point a finger. It wastes time, destroys moral and is the Hallmark of an inexperienced insecure manager to assign blame rather assigning solutions.
Communicate what you want, not how to do it: This fosters innovation, ownership and initiative.
