Opulent, sophisticated, romantic, glitzy, glamorous – Art Deco style epitomizes a sense of youthful and lavish aspirations. The style was bold and beautiful with a sense of sophistcated geometric order; it pushed the limits in it's day as ultra modern and today the hot style being very popular with celebrities and jewelry collectors.

It has always been, in terms of design, architecture, fashion, etc., among my favorite periods. That said, I am ecstatic this season’s jewelry and accessory trends seem to be taking cue from the art deco, Jazz Age with daring geometric lines and angular shapes, brilliant opaque stones, and plenty of crystal and black lustery detail.
Even the November cover of W Jewelry features a model with a bold 1920s-esque bob. While platinum blond, she could certainly be the striking, edgier 2006 version of Louise Brooks. The November issue of Elle Accessories featured more razzle dazzle deco details than I’ve seen in quite some time. It made me dizzy. I loved it.
Turn up the jazz, pour the gin, and accessorize – Art Deco style – with the same reckless abandon that marked the infamous era!
Mark my word, I will sparkle (with, perhaps, crystal vintage earrings), and shine (with black and gold glossed detail) this season.
For authentic Deco pieces, I’ve been searching www.RubyLane.com, the premier online venue for antiques, collectibles fine art, and jewelry. As every item showcased on the Ruby Lane web site is certified by the company’s arts and antiques professionals, it’s a safe bet. While I’ve yet to peruse the entire catalog – a few thousand pieces! – I have my eye on an authentic red coral ring, an amazing 1930’s cascading waterfall pendant with glass topaz and amber rhinestones, and a five-strand brass bib necklace with glossy black glass beads.
For the serious Deco divas, modern, luxury pieces reinventing the authentic designs are easy to find this season. One brief browse on www.Angara.com, a leading online jewelry retail site, resulted in two amazing finds: an emerald cut Ceylon Blue Sapphire and Diamond bracelet (the angular shape, bold blue and pave diamond accents mimic classic Deco design), as well as a double-strand Tahitian Cultured Pearl bracelet – the pearls are highlighted by a vintage-inspired channel-set diamond clasp that adds an elegant, sophisticated touch of Deco decadence.
