“Would you rest your head on a toilet seat?” New Anti-Microbial technology!

Can you believe that recent studies have shown that a toilet seat or the bottom of a shoe is cleaner than your cell phone? Our can’t-leave-the-house-without-one cell phones are absolutely FILTHY!

News broke this morning of research conducted in the United Kingdom finding that mobile phones are a “technological Petri dish for tens of thousands of germs.” – ABC News . But how you say? It’s just your face, right?! One thing about our face is that we clean it religiously (I won’t be caught dead without cleansing day and night with my Natura) but when’s the last time you took a cleanser-drenched cloth to your cellphone? And since our phones heat up after excessive text messaging, data services and phone use, it’s a breeding zone for that icky bacteria. Our filthy fingers dial digits, our mouths eject saliva and our phones heat it up for us, making it the DIRTIEST item we possess. UM, GROSS!

What can we do? For one, sanitize your hands regularly – if you’re on the run, grab a nifty travel hand sanitizer like Earth Therapeutics’ and keep some moist towelettes around – my favorite? Chef Yossi Chef’s towelettes – they’re no average Wet Naps: these heavy-duty ones actually feel like real kitchen towels and are specifically designed to fight the ‘hazards of the workplace.’ They also remove odors and are approved to remove evil microbes like E.coli and salmonella. Use them for your hands AND the cellphone.

And just to make sure you don’t take this light-heardedly, ABC reports “the filthiest phones can spread the dreaded staph bacteria, which can cause everything from skin infections to meningitis.” They even tested them on the “Good Morning America” crew and found about 30 million bacteria on some of their phones. Really nervous about it? New phones from Motorola have anti-microbial coating from AglON which prevents bacteria from growing. Additionally, the i870 is the first mobile device to feature the AgION® antimicrobial coating which helps inhibit the growth of microbes such as bacteria and mold on the handset's painted surfaces.” Unfortunately, only Nextel is covering the service and the phone retails for about $299.99.

Out of the mouth of babes … (with now a VERY CLEAN phone)
