Summer 2006 Fashion Trends

Every summer, we see a brand new trend or group of styles that are all the rage. Last year, terry cloth moo-moo dresses, and lots of hanging, loose peasant type clothing. This year, fashion takes a turn for the more classy looking outfits.

1. Eyelets- This classy look gives off rays of beauty and purity. It reminds us of a virgin porcelain doll during the 50’s time era. BCBG, Betsey Johnson, and Shelli Segal all have their renditions of the eyelet.

2. Puff or Bubble Dresses- Straight from the 80’s, this summer ’06 trend could be called the puff, balloon, or poof. Basically, the style calls for a magnified hem at the bottom of a dress, shirt, or skirt- giving an enhanced ladies figure. Nicole Miller, Cynthia Rowley, and H&M all have renditions.

3. Amplify Your Waist- It is obvious that the female figure is being praised this summer. Forget about the stick figure look- its all about curves, just as it was back in the day. This summer, embrace the female body by wearing a dress fitted perfectly with a large belt or enhanced waistline.

4. Peasantry to Handmade Items- Last summer we experienced the peasants in rare form. Everyone from your mother to the dog walker had a peasant type shirt or dress on. The fashion has evolved since last year and has morphed into something a bit more creative. The style ranges from Indian items with bursts of color to home made looking pieces; which are unique. These fashions can be picked up at your local thrift store or from designers such as Tracy Reese, Jill Stuart, and BCBG.

5. White Wash- You are safe with white unless you drop your low fat cheeseburger on your dress. White is always a safe zone during the summer. This season, wear an all white outfit, but be sure to spike it out with an accent of color; whether it be a bright belt or body jewelry.

As always, colors are in, as well as black and white with a distinct pattern. Dresses with flow and wave are classy, and will always be around. Remain patriotic with your red, white and blues, but don’t over do it unless you are hosting a July 4th Bar-B-Que.
